One of the good stories surrounding the Oilers this season is young RNH. The young man has been very good offensively and is surprisngly well schooled away from the puck. Among the things Oiler fans can count as a great development and a strong up arrow is Burnaby Ryan. RNH has a chance to move high on the list of all-time Oiler rookies. “I don’t think they realize yet what it takes to win on a nightly basis… It starts in your own head. The minute that you man up and buy in and understand how much it hurts to be a winner, we have a shot. Right now, not good enough.” That’s head coach Tom Renney on Sunday night after his team’s third loss in a row, this one against the Chicago Blackhawks.
When Steve Tambellini signed Cam Barker this summer, we knew what the Oilers were getting based on resume. His recent injury then should be considered a stroke of good luck? In the July 2nd post I linked to above, this was the main issue:Did he ever--at any time--play tough minutes in the NHL? No. He didn't in Minnesota and in Chicago they always had a better option. Whatever...
Oilers defenseman Cam Barker has went for surgery, and that means he'll be gone for at least three months. The situation could be a career-ender for Barker with the Edmonton Oilers, as he wasn't showing much before the injury. Barker was, at best, a 5/6 guy, and those aren't impossible to find.
The entire situation with the Oilers defense is looking a little bleak...
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Cam Barker will be sidelined for several months with an ankle injury.
The third overall pick of the 2004 draft, Barker suffered the injury last week and will require surgery.
Barker also missed three games this season with a shoulder injury.
The 25-year-old Barker has collected one goal in 12 games this season.
Oilers lose 5-2 to Senators
So how about that Nail kid? He sounds like he could be great, and “fail for nail” has a certain je ne sais quoi to it.
The Edmonton Oilers drop their fourth in a row, and lose even more defencemen while trade speculation for every healthy player reaches all new highs. It seems that things have returned to the “normal” of the past two seasons...
The list of Oilers forwards stuck offensively is real and it's spectacular: Taylor Hall hasn't scored in November, Magnus Paajarvi is lost and the Edmonton Oilers are a putrid offensive team. Their 41 goals is 9 off the league average (source: hockey-reference) and the early magic of the GA is lost too (although their 43 GA is still miles better than the league average)....
After a hearing with Gary Bettman, the dispute between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings has come to a conclusion, at least that is what can be inferred after this tweet from TSN’s Bob McKenzie:
EDM-LAK settlement reportedly a small cash outlay to offset some of Fraser’s medical costs. No big deal apparently. Everyone moving on.

A LOOK BACK......
So Nikolai Khabibulin and the Edmonton Oilers had one of those home nights where nothing went right last night. Ottawa chased the goalie in seven shots and rolled on to a 5-2 road win in Edmonton. It left quite a few fantasy fans and hockey fans stunned. Maybe it was the fact that Ottawa only fired 16 shots on Edmonton goalies that...
Last week, we asked you to submit poetry that honored the rookie artistry (and perilous overhyping) of Edmonton Oilers rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Our first collection of entries was impressive; this second batch raises the bar, including this video reading submitted by Katy Webb, who writes "Our YouTube entry, kind sir …a very much last-ditch effort at some Hoppy swag."...
Taylor Chorney (in photo, in Blues uniform) and Colten Teubert were recalled by the Edmonton Oilers in time for tomorrow night's game against the Hawks. Andy Sutton and Corey Potter were to have MRI's today and we should know more by game time, but I'd guess that both of the new hires play tomorrow night. Ryan Whitney is apparently getting closer, and that should be the...
Edmonton captain Shawn Horcoff joins host Scott Oake and co-host Kevin Weeks after the Oilers take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
Improved scoring and goaltending have helped the Ottawa Senators bounce back from a season-worst losing streak that opened this month.
The Edmonton Oilers have all kinds of problems to fix in what has become a rough November.
Ottawa goes for its third straight victory Thursday night when the Oilers try to post their first five-game home winning streak since 2007-08.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Tom Renney announced Thursday that defenseman Cam Barker will have ankle surgery in the near future.
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defencemen Colten Teubert and Taylor Chorney from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Teubert, 21, has played in 13 games with the Barons thi...
The Edmonton Oilers are back home and will entertain the Ottawa Senators tonight at Rexall Place.
