Found October 25, 2013 on The PensNation:
By: Casey Johnston (@CaseyR82) Last Game for the Pens:  Monday, a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.  Gabriel Landeskog scored the game’s lone goal.  The Penguins peppered J.S. Giguere with 34 shots but couldn’t beat him.  Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 13 of 14 shots. Last Game for the Islanders:  Tuesday, a 5-4 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks.  Matt Moulson scored twice while Brock Nelson and Frans Nielsen scored once for the Islanders.  Moulson, Nielsen, and Kyle Okposo each had multi-point games. Last Time These Two Teams Met:  May 11, 2013.  The Penguins clinched the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals with a 4-3 overtime win.  Colin McDonald, John Tavares, and Michael Grabner scored for the Islanders.  Jarome Iginla, Pascal Dupuis, and Paul Martin scored for the Penguins before Brooks Orpik clinched the series in overtime.  Tomas Vokoun stopped 35 of 38 shots.  Story of the Game:  The Penguins have officially decided to keep Olli Maatta past his nine-game tryout and now they have decisions to make.  It seems unlikely they will carry eight defensemen, but it seems equally unlikely that they will expose anyone to waivers.  A trade seems imminent, but at this point no defenseman deserves to be shipped out of town (or sat in the press box). Pens All-Time Record Against the Islanders:  107-92-22-6. Islanders-Killer on the Pens:  Sidney Crosby has nine points in his last five regular season games versus the Islanders. Penguins-Killer on the Islanders:  Frans Nielsen has 18 points in 28 career games versus the Penguins. Probable Lines Tonight: (From Daily Faceoff) Penguins 14 Chris Kunitz – 87 Sidney Crosby – 9 Pascal Dupuis 36 Jussi Jokinen – 71 Evgeni Malkin – 12 Chuck Kobasew 15 Tanner Glass – 16 Brandon Sutter – 59 Jayson Megna 27 Craig Adams – 46 Joe Vitale – 5 Deryk Engelland 4 Rob Scuderi – 58 Kris Letang 44 Brooks Orpik – 7 Paul Martin 3 Olli Maatta 2 Matt Niskanen 37 Jeff Zatkoff Islanders 26 Matt Moulson – 91 John Tavares – 21 Kyle Okposo 60 Pierre-Marc Bourchard – 12 Josh Bailey 29 Brock Nelson – 16 Peter Regin – 15 Cal Clutterbuck 17 Matt Martin – 53 Casey Cizikas – 13 Colin Mcdonald 3 Travis Harmonic – 37 Andrew MacDonald 46 Matt Donovan – 37 Brian Strait 14 Thomas Hickey – 7 Matt Carkner 20 Evgeni Nabakov

Olli Maatta will remain with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins 2012 first round draft pick, Olli Maatta, will remain with the team, general manager Ray Shero announced Thursday. “Based on his play, we believe this is the best decision for Olli and the Penguins,” Shero said. “We want to thank Mark and Dale Hunter and the London Knights for their patience and understanding.” The 19-year-old

Marc-Andre Fleury's Game on the Path to a Renaissance? by @griffTHW

A funny thing happened at CONSOL Energy Center last weekend.  Squared off against the Vancouver Canucks in a Saturday matinee, the Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury surrendered a tally that conjured up images of his recent playoff ghosts.  After the harmless looking shot from center ice floated on net, rolled up and over Fleury's chest and trickled over the goal line, the...

Brian Strait Hurt, Martinek in Against Pittsburgh

Brian Strait is day-to-day with an upper body injury and will miss tomorrow’s game against Pittsburgh. That leaves the Islanders with six defenders so Radek Martinek will make his season debut tomorrow night.

Isles backup Kevin Poulin may get the call soon

Most of the Islanders wait roughly two minutes to see action. Two or three line shifts and the skaters come over the boards and into the fray. Kevin Poulin whose job description is "backup goalie" sat for seven days before he was called to be Evgeni Nabokov's proxy (a 3-2 loss to Chicago) and since has waited another 13 days. With back-to-back games coming this week...

GIF: Penguins D melts down on a game tying goal

Uhhh what happen here? Total failure by all players involved. First off, this is why Chuck Kobasew is Chuck Kobasew. Gotta get the puck out. Malkin checked out, Niskanen yikes, and Olli Maatta makes his first really, really bad play.

Spano’s Deception: The 1996 Sale of the New York Islanders

For a long the New York Islanders have been a mediocre franchise. Instead of keeping their young talent they like to trade it in order to acquire big names. For example they have traded Zdeno Chara, Roberto Luongo, and others and in return; no megastars. Although these questionable moves were made nothing even remotely matches […]

Dan Petriw: Isles Battle Pens Tonight

The Islanders will head into to Pittsburgh to battle the division leading Penguins tonight at 7pm. The Isles will start goalie Evgeni Nabokov in net as they try and tackle two points away from the high flying Penguins. I would expect Islander backup goalie Kevin Poulin to start tomorrow night in Philadelphia. The only scratch for tonight is Eric Boulton so Brock Nelson will...

Rick DiPietro To Continue Career In The AHL by   Steven Ellis

The legendary saga of Rick DiPietro has continued. He has signed a PTO with AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Yes, he can’t even get a standard player contract. No one could have predicted that DiPietro would spend more time on the IR than on the ice, but he has been limited to 47 games since 2008. His injuries troubles began in March 2007 when he [...]

Dan Petriw: Are you not Entertained?? Isles defeat Pens 4-3

If we have learned nothing over the past year and a half the New York Islanders are always entertaining. The game isn't always perfect, or pretty or executed properly yet the Isles find a way to stick around and the next thing you know they find a way to steal a point or two. Last night in Pittsburgh the Islanders hung around; killed off many Pittsburgh power plays and...

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 11: Toronto Maple Leafs

Pittsburgh Penguins (7-3-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (7-4-0) Root Sports, CBC - 7:00 pm/et  Air Canada Centre - Toronto, ON Saturday night on CBC. It's a big game for the Pens and for the Leafs. Like it or not, Saturday night in Toronto is the big time in hockey. The lights are bright, the pre-game video package is epic and Don Cherry is confused and out of...

DiPietro Signs PTO With Huricanes AHL Affiliate

Rick DiPietro, subject of tomorrow's Slapshots, has signed PTO with Carolina AHL affiliate Charlotte, Post has learned. — Larry Brooks (@NYP_Brooksie) October 26, 2013 Remember Cam Ward is out 3-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.

RECAP: Game 10. Pens lose 4-3.

Don't be surprised if this game starts a big-time run for the Islanders. Even though they got outshot, a stat that was aided by five fruitless Penguins power plays, the Islanders are starting to become a really tough team again. Don't get us wrong; their defense is still Swiss cheese, and no one has any idea which Evgeni Nabokov is going to show up on any given night...
