Photo: Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports The Carolina Hurricanes are in town tonight as the Rangers look to extend their winning streak to three games. Having already won two in a row and three of four, this Rangers club looks like one that is finally starting to click. On the other side of the coin, the Hurricanes have lost four in a row after a good start to the season. Losing Cam Ward for an extended period of time probably has a lot to do with that. On the ice, the Canes play a bit of a hybrid forechecking system. They play an aggressive 2-1-2 to start the game, but will switch to a trap late in the game with a lead (switching to a trap to defend a lead is a common theme). In the defensive zone , they run box + 1 system, which is a box setup in front with a player pressuring the puck depending on the puck location. On special teams, the Sabres run an umbrella powerplay and a hybrid  penalty kill (varies between the systems based on puck location). Rangers Lineup (unconfirmed): Chris Kreider-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello Carl Hagelin-Brad Richards-Benoit Pouliot Taylor Pyatt-Derick Brassard-J.T. Miller Brandon Mashinter-Brian Boyle-Derek Dorsett Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi Marc Staal-Anton Stralman Michael Del Zotto-John Moore Henrik Lundqvist gets the start PP1: Del Zotto-Richards, Kreider-Stepan-Brassard PP2: McDonagh-J. Moore, Pouliot-Miller-Boyle Scratches:  Rick Nash (concussion), Ryan Callahan (thumb), Dominic Moore (oblique), Justin Falk (healthy) Game time is 7pm tonight. Don’t forget to check out our Rangers Tickets link for deals to attend games. Around the Farm: McIlrath notches another goal in Pack shootout loss

Dylan McIlrath is starting to show why the Rangers drafted him in the first round of the 2010 draft, as he notched his third goal of the season in Hartford’s 3-2 shootout loss to Springfield. McIlrath was never known for his scoring, but he is starting to put up points at an average of slightly below a point every other game. The Undertaker, as he is called, has also made significant...

Vigneault Not Happy With Hit From Ryan Murphy On Derek Dorsett

via Katie Strang of ESPNNewYork, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault made it clear after his team's 5-1 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday night that he did not like Ryan Murphy's second-period hit on Derek Dorsett. The rookie defenseman appeared to undercut Dorsett, upending him in a play that infuriated Dorsett's teammates and resulted in a clipping penalty. ...

Rangers’ Richards thrilled to be back at center

Brad Richards cut the question off before it even could be finished, adamant about how much more he likes playing center than wing. “I feel way better there,” Richards told The Post after Friday’s practice, as the team prepares for Saturday night’s game against the Hurricanes at the Garden. “I feel more involved on the ice, overall in all areas.” Because of what was...

Judgment Week for the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers proved last week that their 2-6 start to the season was a bit of a fluke. This week, they must prove that three straights wins wasn’t. Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers must ratchet things up another notch with the Ducks and Penguins coming to The Garden. To do so, they’ll have to beat either Anaheim, who comes to the Garden Monday night, or Pittsburgh, who’s...

Lundqvist, Rangers blank lowly Sabres

This 2-0 victory over the Sabres at the Garden on Thursday night marked a return to order in the Rangers’ universe. First and foremost, Henrik Lundqvist — remember him? — was as close to peak form as he has been all season in recording the 29-save shutout during which he was in complete command, even if against an inferior foe. Though Cam Talbot’s emergence as a reliable...

Pavel Bure in for the experience of a lifetime

Markus Naslund has an idea what Pavel Bure will experience on Saturday when the Russian Rocket's No. 10 will be raised to the rafters at Rogers Arena, never again to be worn by a Vancouver Canuck player. Naslund's No. 19 was retired three years ago. His was the third number to be so honoured after Stan Smyl's No. 12 and Trevor Linden's No. 16. Bure will be the fourth...

Lundqvist Shuts Out Sabres in Rangers 2-0 Win

On Halloween night, the New York Rangers faced the struggling Buffalo Sabres in Madison Square Garden. On this spooky night, the Rangers scared off the Sabres offense shutting them out and sending them further down the Atlantic Division dungeon. The Blueshirts open up the first period with a scramble around their zone. Luckily that was […]

Ducks-Rangers Preview

New York is treating the Rangers quite a bit better than the road. The Rangers will go for a fourth straight win Monday night when they host the Anaheim Ducks. Since returning from a season-opening nine-game road trip, New York (6-7-0) has won three of four. It has strung together two home wins after beating the New York Islanders on Long Island. The Rangers are in position to...

Don’t Call The Sedins “Soft”

from Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province, The Canucks have signed the Sedins to matching four-year, $28 million extensions. After the deals were announced, head coach John Tortorella did not disappoint. He went to town on those who ascribe to the theory the twins are soft players. “I’m not sure who started it but I’m sure there are a couple of know-it-alls...

Lundqvist, Rangers Blank Sabres

Henrik Lundqvist and the NY Rangers continued to make life miserable for the Buffalo Sabres. Lundqvist recorded a 29-save shutout as the Rangers blanked Buffalo 2-0. Chris Kreider and Derick Brassard scored the goals. Ryan Miller made 44 saves in the loss. Miller continues to shine despite being on a 2-12-1 team. All Buffalo is doing by trotting him out there is trying to boost his...

Hurricanes-Rangers Preview

The New York Rangers feel they're moving in the right direction. Extending their win streak against the Carolina Hurricanes could help solidify that belief. As they continue trying to put their slow start behind them, the Rangers go for a ninth straight win against the Hurricanes on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. New York (5-7-0) opened by losing six of its first...
