Edmonton Oilers (4-11-2) @ Philadelphia Flyers (4-10-1), 1:00pm, NHL Network/CSN-Philly Well, a meeting between the second-worst and third-worst teams in the NHL took an interesting turn on Friday. After a day filled with several trade rumors between the two clubs, the Edmonton Oilers signed a recently released Philadelphia Flyer that was at least entertaining, if not productive on the ice, as the Western Conference club signed Ilya Bryzgalov. It seemed as though it was only a matter of time before a club reached out to the former Philly goaltending character. Ironically, the team that did so signed Bryzgalov the day …Continue reading »

Philadelphia Flyers star center Claude Giroux’s car was hit while it was parked. However, according to multiple reports, Giroux was luckily not in the car when the accident occurred on Friday night. The captain is fine, but carries a career-long 21-game goalless drought into tonight’s game with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers say they have a verbal agreement in place to sign goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year contract.
Bryzgalov's deal was contingent on the completion of trade with the Calgary Flames that cleared defenseman Ladislav Smid's $3.5 million cap hit off the books.
The Philadelphia Flyers bought out of the final seven years of Bryzgalov's $51 million, nine...
Everyone's favorite Philly columnist, Sam Carchidi, he of baton fame, let everyone know that Giroux snubbed the media and bounced from the Wells Fargo Center after the Flyers' 3-0 loss to the Devils.

The NHL is working to eliminate checks to the head, however referees are still inconsistent when enforcing the rule.
During Saturday afternoons game between the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers, Anton Belov made shoulder-to-shoulder contact with Claude Giroux, sending him to the ice. The referee gave Belov a match penalty, sending Belov to the dressing room for the remainder...
Did this hit by Belov deserve a match penalty?
Saturday afternoon’s matchup pitted the NHL’s worst offensive team against its worst defensive team, which… didn’t sound promising for either side. However, the Flyers, who were held scoreless in their last game (Thursday at New Jersey), opened up the scoring first, with a nice redirection from Rosehill at 11:56. Then, at 17:16, Hartnell’s second goal of the season gave...

The Edmonton Oilers have parted ways with defenceman Ladislav Smid.
On Friday, the Oilers announced they had traded Smid and goaltending prospect Olivier Roy to the Calgary Flames in exchange for centre Roman Horak and goaltender Laurent Brossoit.
