It's unknown that all general managers look at all of these advanced stats that are gaining popularity on the Internet, but I suspect that Mike Gillis of the Vancouver Canucks might be one of them. He's made some very good trades over the past year where the Canucks acquired a low-PDO player for not much of a cost. The most recent one being the trade for David Booth in exchange for Marco Sturm and Mikael Samuelsson. Booth is a very talented player who hasn't been getting any luck the last two seasons with Florida (PDO is 934 this year), and Gillis was able to take advantage of Dale Tallon "selling low" on him and was able to snag a top-six forward for two expiring contracts.I wouldn't be surprised to see more GM's do something similar and the Hurricanes are in a position where another team can take advantage of them via trade or vice ve...

Should Vancouver move a goaltender?
Is the Vancouver Canucks' crease big enough for both Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider to remain with the team for the rest of the season, or should GM Mike Gillis look to move one of his goaltenders to bolster another spot prior to the trade deadline? This is a question likely to be asked a multitude of times over the next two and a half months, and there really is no easy answer...
Roberto Luongo 'Sucks,' According to Netminder's Own T-Shirt
Roberto Luongo has been through a lot in the past couple of years. After becoming a Canadian hero for winning gold in the 2010 Olympics, things have gone a bit south. He posted less-than-stellar numbers in the 2010 playoffs as the third-seeded Canucks couldn't get out of the second round, and a year later, with a chance to win a Stanley Cup, Luongo fell flat on his face and insulted...
Rational and Irrational Anger: Riley’s Canucks Rants and Raves
Vancouver Canucks beat blogger Riley Trottier is back and better than ever. With some things to get off his chest. This week, things that bother him about the Canucks, the consistency, the NHL schedule, the concussion and Injury Issues. ON their most recent road trip Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler and the rest only have a measly one point out of a potential four? Seriously, this is a big deal.

Canes Woes Worsened By Injuries
The negatives for the Carolina Hurricanes just keep piling up. The newest news may just be the bottoming out point for the team and franchise: Jeff Skinner has a concussion and his return is unknown.
The 19-year-old phenom, who leads the team in goals with 12 and points with 24, was hit in last Wednesday's loss at Edmonton. He worked out the next morning, and it wasn't...
While Skinner, Pitkanen wait, Harrison recovers
While the Hurricanes acknowledged the bad news about Jeff Skinner and Joni Pitkanen on Wednesday -- both are out indefinitely with what have finally been confirmed are concussions -- Jay Harrison couldn’t have been happier to be back on the ice.
He has missed 10 games and three weeks -- the entire Kirk Muller Era -- with an “upper body” injury that has now been...
Roberto Luongo Can’t Catch A Break, Even From Post-Game Interview Microphones (Photo)
Ouch. That’s awkward. You see, it is reasonable to assume that Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo is wearing a t-shirt that reads “Canucks” during a post-game session with reporters, but the inconvenient placement of one of the reporter’s microphones is partly obscuring the team’s name on the netminder’s shirt so that the “CAN” part in “CANUCKS” [...]
Flying V’s Wrap-Up: Canucks lose 4-3 to Carolina
Canucks insider Kevin Vanstone breaks down the Game 31 matchup between the Vancouver Canucks vs. Carolina Hurricanes. Cam Ward and Cory Schneider both put on outstanding performances in their respective creases, but the hometown goaltender held the fort down late. Canucks Goalie Roberto Luongo Victim of Unfortunate Microphone Placement
The Vancouver Canucks lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets last night 2-1 in shootouts. Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo thought that losing kinda sucks and he let us all know. He didn't even have to say it.
Dave Bolland, Alain Vigneault Engage in Silly War of Words
Even though next season will see the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks only play each other twice, their rivalry still continues to burn hot. Their next tilt will not take place until January 31st, but that did not stop center Dave Bolland from throwing a couple of jabs at the Canucks’ Swedish tandem of Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
In an interview with David Kaplan of WGN...
