Pittsburgh Penguins (36-21-5, 77 pts) @ Dallas Stars (33-26-4, 70 pts) 6:30 PM CT, February 26, 2012 American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas Stars: As improbable as it seemed just two weeks ago, the Stars have somehow rallied together and enter tonight's game on a four game win streak. They remain tied with the LA Kings and the Colorado Avalanche for the eighth spot in the West but sit in the last playoff spot due to tiebreakers (Dallas has more regulation and overtime wins). The opponent tonight is another tough one as the Pittsburgh Penguins come into town. Dallas lost 3-1 in the previous matchup between the two earlier this season. That game was noteworthy because Alex Goligoski was injured and subsequently missed a month of games. Fingers are crossed for a healthier showing tonight. The Stars have been riding this win streak with solid goaltending and a sudden explosion of offense. They have outscored the opponent 13-4 during the four game win streak and have played st...

Ray Shero all smiles with no D-Day deals

We hope you like the look of the current Penguins roster because Ray Shero certainly does after not making a single move before yesterday’s Trade Deadline. For the first time since 1989, the Pens stood pat with their current team rather than acquire an upgrade for a playoff run or dump salary before the offseason. But for yinzers out there who can’t believe Shero would take...

Eklund: Ott Watch Isn't Over -- Just Delayed Temporarily

One of the more intriguing subplots to the 2012 NHL Trade Deadline was the internal debate within the Dallas Stars organization over whether the club should trade or hold onto Steve Ott. The sheer number of teams that wanted to acquire one of the NHL's prime agitators -- and more underrated clutch performers -- drove the offering prices close to the level where Dallas was tempted...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: 3/1/12

Apart from the fact that the Dallas Stars got only point out of last night's game against the Penguins, there was a lot to like about their performance. The Stars brought a lot of energy and intensity to the game and played very well on the whole in a game that had a playoff-like feel to it. If Dallas can bring a similar effort most nights down the stretch, the lost point last...

Penguins-Stars Preview

Neither the Pittsburgh Penguins nor the Dallas Stars made any trades this week, but a deal they struck before last season's deadline should still be the talk of the rink Wednesday night. James Neal has blossomed into a star since Dallas sent him to the Penguins, but the surging Stars are hoping to spoil his initial return to Texas and claim a fifth straight victory. Alex Goligoski...

A "Dirty" Hit that wasn't (RW77)

Last night, I watched the Dallas vs. Pittsburgh game (unfortunately, Pittsburgh won in a shootout). However, during the game, there was a hit that got everyone talking.I do not know how to embed but: Here is the video. The Stars (and former Michigan star) Eric Nystrom hits Pens Defenseman Kris Letang high-ish.Mike Milbury (aka the idiot in this post) and Jeremy Roenick (who usually...

Stars-Oilers Preview

The Dallas Stars feel good about themselves after using February to make a push for the postseason. They also know that all they have accomplished is to make their next stretch of games decisive. The Stars begin a three-game trip Friday night as they look to improve to 3-0-0 this season against the Edmonton Oilers. Dallas (33-26-5) saw its four-game win streak end with Wednesday...
