Dallas Stars (34-26-5, 73 pts) @ Calgary Flames (29-25-11, 69 pts) 5:00 PM CT, March 4, 2012 Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Stars: As surprising as it might be, the Stars enter this game as one of the hotter teams in the league. They've gone 6-2-2 in the last 10 games and have won five of the last six games. Dallas has managed to get at least one point in each of those games though so the Stars enter tonight on a six game point streak.  It's been firing on all cylinders for Dallas during this winning streak. The defense and goaltending (mostly goaltending) has held opponents to two or less goals in each of the five wins. The only loss occurred when the Stars were beaten in a shootout against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The offense has been jstu as good as the Stars have scored at least three goals in six straight games. Scoring three against this Flames team and Dallas will be very tough to beat. The game today presents an opportunity to knock out some of...

Stars' point streak shows strong start no fluke

The Dallas Stars march on. On Sunday, the Stars beat the Flames 3-2 in a shootout, giving them back-to-back wins to start their three-game swing through Western Canada. Glen Gulutzan's club has now won four straight road games and continues to rack up points using a pretty simple formula. For one, the Stars continue to be carried by their top two lines, but they are also getting...

Robidas With A Batch Of Bad Sticks

via Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, Defenseman Stephane Robidas broke five sticks Sunday in a 3-2 shootout win over Calgary. Robidas tapes three sticks for every game, and went through all three of them quickly. He then used the two practice sticks he has in the practice bag, and also broke those. He finished the game using Philip Larsen’s stick _ one of the few right-handed...

Churning waters atop tight Pacific Division

Theres still a month left in the NHLs regular season, but Dallas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan wont be fooled by those semantics. "Its a playoff atmosphere," he said after the Stars beat Calgary 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday for their sixth win in seven games. Nowhere is that atmosphere more apparent than in the Pacific Division. One week ago, the Phoenix Coyotes and San Jose...

An E-mail Interview with Kent Wilson of Flames Nation, Puck Daddy and More

There is no doubt that sports blogging has come an extremely long way over the past few years. This is especially the case when it comes to hockey blogs. One example of that is Kent Wilson. Kent has been around the hockey blog world for several years and has written for SBN’s Calgary Flames Blog, FlamesNation.ca, Hockey Prospectus, Houses of the Hockey, and now, the ever popular...

Flames LW Buoma out with upper body injury

Calgary Flames rookie left wing Lance Buoma suffered an upper body injury during Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars. "He'll be out for ... I don't know. It could be a game. It could be two, I'm not sure," coach Brent Sutter said. "I don't know that, but he's definitely going to be out our next game." The 21-year-old Buoma...

Lehtonen, Eriksson power Stars to a 3-2 win over the Flames

Final SO Dallas 3 - Calgary 2 The Stars continued to move up the standings with a fantastic 3-2 shootout win over the Calgary Flames last night. Dallas would have liked if this game didn't go into a three point situation but the Stars didn't compound...

Stars-Flames Preview

Before the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames met last month, Calgary held a three-point edge over the Stars in the standings. The Flames are in a much less enviable position now. Dallas seeks its sixth victory in seven games Sunday when it visits the fading Flames, who have lost five of six. The Stars had lost four straight to Calgary and three in a row overall to slip to 11th place...

Stars beat Oilers 3-1 in a sleepy game

Final Dallas 3 - Edmonton 1 It wasn't pretty, but the Stars did what they had to do last night. They beat an inferior Edmonton Oilers squad despite not playing their most efficient game. Dallas got depth line scoring in this game through hard work, a little luck and sheer force of will. This was a pretty sleepy game all-around. Dallas never recorded more than six shots in...

Flaming into the Abyss?

Congratulations to Jarome Iginla on his 13th season of 25 goals or better. Even better is the fact that he has achieved that in consecutive seasons on a team that many may deem subpar.  This season’s version of the Calgary Flames leave us questioning many aspects of their game. The debate is over. The team is horrible at shootouts. They are 3-7 in these sordid affairs and have...

Ducks Flame Out Calgary 3-2

Losing two in a row in regulation, the Ducks had to win against Calgary.  Win in regulation?  Even more important.  Anaheim  knew they needed both points and could not afford to give up a point to the Flames, who they are chasing in the standings.  They accomplished their goal, but it was close.Calgary, who had played the night before in Phoenix, recalled Leland Irving from...
