Detroit Red Wings (18-9-1) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (17-9-4)

7:00 pm/et

TV: ROOT, FS-D

CONSOL Energy Center

We hated the Red Wings back in 2008 and 2009. Now... not so much. Maybe it's because the Penguins rarely play them. Maybe it's because people like Chris Osgood and Kris Draper are no longer with the team. Maybe it's because we don't even know who will be playing for the Penguins tonight, so we've got bigger problems. We have no idea. Sure, Tomas Holmstrom will be a nuisance, Niklas Kronwall can't stay on his feet to hit anyone and Todd Bertuzzi is Todd Bertuzzi, but the hatred isn't really there anymore. Maybe it'll come back mid-way through this game.

Season Series: 0-0-0.

Last meeting that counted: March 21, 2011. Penguins won 5-4 [SO]

What we said in our recap:

There was absolutely a meltdown that took place. No questioning that. You don't let a team come back from down 4-0 and just wake up the next day and smile when you see 2 more points added to the standings.

We're at the point of the season where certain things start to define themselves. And a lot of "what if's" start getting thrown around.

Like what if James Neal just needed that shootout game winner to get going? What if games like the Detroit game are signs of things to come in the playoffs? And most important, what if Matt Cooke didn't get suspended for the rest of the season? Maybe something is supposed to happen because of it. Or maybe the Pens will get steamrolled in the first round. No clue.

Ummm.....

Know Your Enemy: Nightmare on Helm Street.

What they're saying:

Time to get pumped up! Detroit will face the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time this season in what could be a preview to the Stanley Cup finals.

Did you hear? Sidney Crosby made a TRIUMPHANT RETURN! Oops you blinked… and now he’s out. It was breaking news all-day yesterday on ESPN, yes the network that pretends hockey doesn't exist has had 24 hour coverage with analysis from Barry Melrose on how Crosby is out again with concussion-like symptoms.

Were you aware that Sidney Crosby is good for the Penguins and NHL? I’m sure he’s is good for Detroit too!

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

Game-time decision city.

Marc-Andre Fleury, Tim Thomas and James Reimer (!?) have the most All-Star votes among goaltenders.

Detroit Red Wings Notes:

Seth at Empty Netters has the Red Wings line combinations.

The Red Wings miss the Penguins who are injured.
