Phil Kessel was in serious need of a pick-me-up during Toronto's game against the Florida Panthers. So, he enlisted the help of smelling salts to help get him through.Go ahead and count the amount of sniffs yourself. Not one, not two, not three, but Kessel took seven sniffs before calling it quits.Apparently, the salts didn't do much for him, as Kessel went pointless in the affair, which resulted in a 4-1 loss for the Maple Leafs.Perhaps he'll toss the smelling salts aside next time around and reach for a 5-Hour Energy, instead.Via Eye on Hockey

Phil Kessel vs. Smelling Salts Is The Most Epic Battle Of The Century

Phil Kessel may not have gotten a great night’s sleep prior to Wednesday’s Leafs game against the Ottawa Senators, because holy crap did he abuse the hell out of the smelling salts on the bench. For those counting at home, that’s seven individual battles between Phil and the salts, each more brutal than the last. [Twitter] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Phil Kessel Goes To Town On Smelling Salts On Maple Leafs Bench (GIF)

With his Toronto Maple Leafs sleepwalking through an eventual 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, Phil Kessel tried very hard to wake himself up — very, very hard. TV cameras spotted Kessel on the Leafs’ bench repeatedly sniffing smelling salts — which, you know, don’t smell particularly good. Bold strategy, Phil, but it didn’t really work out for you. The Maple Leafs’...

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on another hot streak

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on another hot streak and Phil Kessel is leading the way. After going down 2-0 to the Florida Panthers early in the first period, the Leafs came back and won the game 6-3. Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle must have said something to his team during the first intermission because Toronto scored two quick goals just minutes into the second period. Nazem...

Nazem Kadri Catches Smallest Shark Ever While Wearing Iffy Fedora (Photo)

The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t been able to catch a win in Florida yet this week, but Nazem Kadri did snag something while in the Sunshine State. After falling to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, the Leafs headed out to the high seas on their off day Wednesday during their team’s annual Fathers’ Trip. The boys didn’t put on a very good show for their dads in the first game...

Colin Dambrauskas: The David Clarkson, Tyler Bozak, and Dave Bolland Causality Blog

Follow Colin on Twitter!: @ColinDJD It has been the main focus of conversation this season for those involved with the Toronto Maple Leafs; how exactly, are certain players affecting team play when they are in or out of the lineup. With injuries to three players who were deemed to be important to the Leafs success, Toronto has unfortunately not had much time with David Clarkson...

Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 on Thursday night. Mason Raymond, Jay McClement, James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak scored for Toronto, which was coming of a 4-1 loss Tuesday night at Florida. Bernier had a number of strong saves early when Tampa Bay dominated the first half of the first period, and he made a glove save...

We have to be better, Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf says

The Maple Leafs have to pretend their ugly loss against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday didn't happen. They have little choice. "The way the schedule is, I have said it all along, you have to move forward very quickly," captain Dion Phaneuf said. "We know we got outplayed. We're not happy about it. We know we have to be better and we expect to be better...

Is Dion Phaneuf Overachieving?

One of the things most hockey sabermetrics people agree upon is that PDO is an important number.  This number is the sum of the saves percentage and shooting percentage for a player when he is on the ice.  Since that number must average 1000 for any NHL player and runs of high or low saves and shooting percentages are largely unsustainable, the league leaders in PDO are influenced...

Adam French: Nikolai Kulemin : Trade Bait? Or Piece of the Puzzle?

This was written by a friend of mine and he really wanted to get it out there, as did I. As we approach the Winter Olympics we as NHL fans all get to set our grievances and feudal style loyalties to get together as one...and enjoy newer and more nationalistic feudal loyalties, for *blank* and COUNTRY! In addition to this we will get to see how some players who rarely get to...

Toronto Maple Leafs beat Lightning 4-1

Jay McClement doesn’t score highlight-reel goals. The Maple Leafs centre knows it, his teammates know it, fans know it. But the wily veteran has a few tricks after eight-plus seasons in the National Hockey League and unveiled one against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. McClement reached around goaltender Cedrick Desjardins with a deke and tucked the puck into the...

Mike Augello: Path To Playoffs Is On The Road, Leaf Buzz W/Bill Watters;Leafs Vs Panthers

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been successful thus far in making the Air Canada Center a difficult place to play, reeling off six straight wins on home ice. The Leafs are 20-10-1 and rank behind only Eastern Conference division leaders Pittsburgh (23-4-0) and Boston (21-6-2) for victories at home. The same cannot be said for Toronto’s road record, where they are currently...

Toronto Maple Leafs out-played in 4-1 Florida loss.

Brian Campbell’s early third period goal lifted the Florida Panthers (22-27-7) to a hard fought 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs (30-22-6) at home. Panthers’ goaltender Tim Thomas made a great save on a rush by Morgan Reilly and Florida’s counter attack capitalized. Brian Campbell snapped his teams’ 41st shot passed Jonathan Bernier to put the Panthers up 2-0 at 5...

Mike Augello: Toronto Looking To Bottle Up Tampa; Leafs Vs Lightning

The Toronto Maple Leafs hope to rebound from one of their worst efforts of the season, as they face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. The Leafs were thoroughly outplayed and dominated in a 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in the opening game of a brief two game jaunt to the Sunshine State. The game marks the second time that the Leafs and Lightning have met in over...
