On Wednesday, Jan. 16, Frank Zamboni, the inventor of the eponymously named ice resurfacing vehicle, would have celebrated his 112th birthday. The folks behind Google Doodle, who routinely make “spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists,” decided to pay tribute to the great man by incorporating his machine into a nifty little interactive game on Google’s homepage. In the game, the player is responsible for cleaning up the ice surface while avoiding various detritus scattered about the ice. It’s a phenomenal time-waster, so say long to productivity today, kiddos! And happy posthumous birthday, Frank Zamboni. Ice surfaces the world over wouldn’t be the same without your ingenuity.
