Detroit Red Wings
Boy, that escalated quickly. The Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Rockford Ice Hogs 11-6 last night, which set the franchise record for most goals scored in a game. This was nothing compared to the unbelievable bench-clearing brawl that occurred during the second period. The Grand Rapids Griffins are the Detroit Red Wings minor-league affiliate, and the Rockford Ice Hogs are the Chicago Blackhawks minor-league affiliate. It appears as though the NHL rivalry momentarily spilled over into the AHL.This brawl was sparked when Griffins forward Riley Sheahan and Rockford forward Kyle Beach squared off at center ice. Prior to their fight, the last five penalties had been called against Rockford, and the score was 6-3 in favor of Grand Rapids; needless to say the Ice Hogs were frustrated. Before you knew it, everyone else on the ice had squared off, and then Rockford’s goalie Carter Hutton went flying down the ice to take on Griffins goalie Petr Mrazek. The Griffins players then spilled of...

The Detroit Red Wings got their 2013 season off to the roughest start possible on Saturday, losing 6-0 to the St. Louis Blues while only firing 14 shots on goal.
It was the most frustrating season opener recently for the Red Wings, who for the first time in recent memory, might finally appear headed for their version of hockey’s rebuilding stage. This has been helped along especially...
Some bad news for the Detroit Red Wings on opening night: forward Todd Bertuzzi, who was thought to have the flu, will instead miss “several weeks” with mono, Mike Babcock told reporters on Saturday.
Considering the shortened schedule and a typical recovery time from mono, Bertuzzi may not make his 2013 debut until the final stretch of the regular season in late March or early...

The Wings got their first win of the shortened season Monday night beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in the shootout from Nationwide Arena. Detroit got things going as Brian Lashoff got his first of the season and career putting Detroit up 1-0 in the second. Just about midway through the period, Ian White put the Wings up 2-0 before Cam Atkinson got the Jackets on the board as...
This involves Tomas Holmstrom's retirement:

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo left the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-3 shootout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets with an apparent arm injury, suffered when he took an awkward hit along the boards in the third period.
According to Red Wings coach Mike Babcock, whatever injury Colaiacovo suffered is serious enough to sideline him for some time.
“He won’t be playing...
The Detroit Red Wings face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight (7:30 PM, FSD/97.1 FM) as something of a mess. As you probably already know by now, Jakub Kindl (groin) and Darren Helm (back) are on the mend, but Jan Mursak (collarbone) joined Todd Bertuzzi (mononucleosis) on the IR, Jonathan Ericsson (shoulder) is iffy for tonight's game, and so is Jonas Gustavsson ...
from Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press,
One game certainly isn't cause for pressing the panic button. A certain amount of sloppiness and lack of cohesion was expected. But considering that all of the Wings' concerns this season revealed themselves within the first two periods of the first game suggests that general manager Ken Holland perhaps can't afford to be...
The best thing we can do as fans is put game 1 behind us. It wasn't an indication of how this season will play out and it wasn't a result of a Lidstromless defense.
I would like to clear something up real quick and then I may never speak of it again. Nick Lidstrom was one of the greatest players to ever lace up the skates, and the Red Wings benefited greatly each...
A much better start by the Red Wings tonight, but they fell apart in the 3rd period and were lucky to get the shootout win. The defense had a better game, but Quincey is still playing like garbage and is relying on Smith to pick up the slack.
Howard was sharp again, but at some point he’s going to have to stop a breakaway. I never blame goalies for giving up breakaway goals...
I'll write up something momentarily, but...Do we call this progress? The Detroit Red Wings edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in a shootout, but the Wings also went 0-for-7 on special teams, gave up 2 power play goals, surrendered a 2-1 lead...
And when Carlo Colaiacovo's shoulder hit the glass on a heavy, heavy check, he dropped his left glove and headed for the locker...
Injury plagued Detroit Red Wings are coming to town tonight and the Blue Jackets need to be careful. Coming off of an embarrassing 6-0 shutout loss to the St. Louis Blues the Red Wings are coming to town hungry. They are coming at us with a vengeance. The Jackets have just as much to prove [...]
