Dan Rosen at NHL.com reports that Carl Hagelin will participate in the fastest skater competition for Team Alfredsson during the All Star Skills Competition Saturday night.Daniel Aldredsson thinks Hagelin will win. The Rangers rookie will also be in the elimination shootout.Marian Gaborik will not be participating against his teammate but will represent Team Chara in the Skills Challenge Relay and Elimination Shootout.Meanwhile Dan Girardi will compete in the Accuracy Shootout as a passer for Team Alfredsson....no shock Hagelin was chosen for fastest skate. Pretty cool to hear Alfredsson say he thinks the Rangers rookie will win....surprised that Gaborik isn't competing against Hags in fastest skate. Maybe he bowed out so he's not embarrassed by the rook....Girardi totally getting snubbed by Hank, who apparently thinks his #1 defenseman is only good enough to be a passer. For full Skills Competition line-up click here. Finally, Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that Joh...

Lundqvist, Gaborik Exchange Trash Talk, Hagelin Talks All-Star Weekend

There was a little suspense during last night's All-Star Fantasy Draft as Rangers forward Marian Gaborik remained on the board into the later rounds of the selection process, with Henrik Lundqvist still needing to fill a few forward slots as the assistant captain of Team Alfedsson. As I suggested on Twitter, it seemed as if Lundqvist and Gaborik had the wish of competing against...

Why the Rangers Need To Cut Loose Wolski

The Rangers need to get rid of Wojtek Wolski one way or the other. His presence may not be that of a locker room cancer but his salary, tantalising ability and mere presence make him a distraction and a temptation for the coaching staff. Wolski clearly cannot play consistently in Tortorella’s system. A few good shifts here and there are simply not enough for someone with his skill...

Has Rangers' Success Come as a Surprise to You?

The New York Rangers officially hit their midseason break yesterday after defeating the Winnipeg Jets, 3-0, at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Some players have left town for a brief vacation, some are sticking around with family and some are obviously headed to Ottawa for the 2012 All-Star Weekend. I, personally, am not leaving for Ottawa until Friday afternoon, so this gives...

Teammates turned All-Star rivals Lundqvist, Gaborik trade barbs

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and forward Marian Gaborik are on opposite teams during the All-Star Weekend. As a result, some good-natured ribbing took place between the two on Twitter. Lundqvist started the trash talk on Friday night when he tweeted, "Alright @MGaborik10, having a lot of pasta and going to bed early tonight. Watch out for the 2 pad stack tomorrow...

Avery Scores, Fights in Whale's 10th Straight Loss

Sean Avery returned to the CT Whale line-up and scored his second goal in the seven games since being re-assigned, but it wasn't enough as the Rangers AHL affiliate lost their 10th straight game 3-2 to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in overtime last night. After netting his goal, Avery got into an altercation with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Joey Mormina and was given roughing...

Rangers Tribune Chats with Dan Girardi, Marian Gaborik and Carl Hagelin at All-Star Weekend

OTTAWA -- When walking through the media-designated doors here at ScotiaBank Place earlier this evening, I was having trouble locating the locker rooms in the winding tunnels underneath the arena. You'd think the locker rooms would have some sort of bold sign outside to make them easily accessible, but that wasn't the case. Anyway, I was getting towards the end of the...

What can NHL do about concussion problem?

When New York Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski elbowed Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson in the head earlier this season, causing a concussion, NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan declined to suspend Wolski. Shanahan cited Wolskis clean track record and the specifics of the play, arguing that Wolski didnt see Alfredsson until the last minute, then tensed up to protect himself. When...

10 Things New York Rangers Fans Should Be Happy About

This is, by far, one of the best seasons I’ve had as a New York Rangers fan.  It’s almost reminiscent of that memorable season of, dare I say it? 1993-1994.  As we head into the All Star break, the Rangers sit at the top of the league.  Here are a few things that Rangers fans [...]

Hagelin outraces All-Stars

OTTAWA — The NHL’s freshly crowned All-Star speed champ says he isn’t even the fastest Ranger at the annual showcase. “Not too seriously,” Carl Hagelin said is how he will take winning the fastest skater title in the yearly skills competition last night. “There are guys out there faster...

The Hank Shuffle

TheNYRBlog reader Nevada T. sends me this .gif of Henrik Lundqvist doing the "Hank Shuffle" in an attempt to keep the puck from crossing the line during the Rangers 3-0 against the Jets Tuesday night... ...savvy veteran move by Hank making sure there was no doubt the ref didn't see that puck cross the goal line. Was definitely laughing my ass off watching him do that...

The Fire Inside

While hockey fans were enjoying the performance of Carl Hagelin at the All-Star Skills Competition; New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects were in action working on their own dream of being at an NHL All-Star game. Saturday night was a mixed bag of performances once again as consistency seems to be the biggest roadblock for many of the prospects struggled with. Rangers...
