Found December 01, 2011 on All Things Avs:
Indeed, the minus-16 rating for Avalanche “shutdown” defenseman Jan Hejda was a humiliating statistic for the kind of player who judges himself on that very figure. The affable Hejda smiled and took a big sigh when I asked him how his plus-3 (including his third goal of the season, two shy of his career high) felt in tonight’s 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Hejda is now minus-13. We led our online and paper-version game stories with Hejda’s reaction from his best game since joining the Avalanche in a free-agent deal last summer. Here’s an additional quote we didn’t use in the other stories: “I don’t think I played any good (before tonight). I played hard, but I watched video when I was like minus-15 or minus-16 four or five games ago, and I tried to be everywhere. But I was kind of just skating from one corner to the other corner. I didn’t hold my position and I posed a lot of trouble for everybody in the zone. I’m kind of settled down now. Just trying to be smart.” Meanwhile,...

With Johnson back soon, who on D will sit for Avalanche? With Stefan Elliott having another outstanding game tonight, along with the rest of his team, the big question I have is: who’s gonna sit when Erik Johnson comes back? Let’s start with the premise that Elliott can NOT be one of the current top six defensemen who sit with EJ comes back, possibly Friday night against his old team, St. Louis. Unless the Avs’...

Mueller, EJ skate this morning, both to remain on IR

Just 12 skaters and two goalies participated in this morning’s skate at the Pepsi Center in preparation for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Among the participants were left wing Peter Mueller and defenseman Erik Johnson. Both are on injured reserve and Avs coach Joe Sacco said neither will be activated today. Mueller and EJ were unavailable for comment. Those not...

New Jersey Devils Buried on the Road by Colorado Avalanche

A 6-1 blowout loss on Wednesday night at the hands of Colorado has the Devils sinking even further towards the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Milan Hejduk started the scoring early for the Avalanche when he found the back of the net for the eighth time this season at 7:37, registering his 15th point in 15 career games against the Devils.  The next Colorado goal came less than...

Matt Duchene on left wing, but Avalanche coach Joe Sacco shakes up lines

Devils-Avalanche Preview

The Colorado Avalanche hoped an eight-game homestand would help turn around their struggles. After dropping three of the first five, things haven't gone as planned. Colorado looks to get back on track Wednesday night when it hosts the New Jersey Devils, who have won three of their last four on the road. The Avalanche's four home wins are tied for fewest in the league,...

Avalanche scores with new line

Fifteen years separate 35-year-old winger Milan Hejduk from center Ryan O'Reilly, but the Avalanche forwards thought and played like twins Wednesday night.

Tuesday Avalanche notebook

Not too exciting a day down at Avalanche headquarters. Avs went through a regular practice, and had a meeting afterward. But it wasn’t a team meeting to talk about their latest problems on the ice, it was an NHL security meeting. Basically, the Avs watched a video concerning the realities of today’s smartphone age. The message can be boiled down to: watch what you text, watch...

Avs Boat Race Devils, 6-1

Well, that was fun. Big night for O'Reilly - I believe it was his first 3 point game of his career.  We're barely into the 2nd quarter of the season and he need 10 points to have a career year.  (I think he's gonna do it.) If you ask me, O'Reilly will be the next captain of the Avs.   Even though he only gave up one goal and made a few nice saves in the first...
