The Detroit Red Wings players said they did not want to miss the playoffs in Henrik Zetterberg’s first season as captain. On Saturday night in Dallas, with the postseason on the line, the captain made sure his team would play on. Zetterberg scored twice in the Red Wings’ 3-0 win over Minnesota — early, on an incredible individual effort that resulted in the puck bouncing home off a Dallas player’s skate; then, early in the third, as Zetterberg scored on a shorthanded breakaway to put Detroit up two. His first goal of the night: And No. 2:

Red Wings embarking on 22nd straight playoffs

The Detroit Red Wings will begin their 22nd consecutive playoff appearance on Tuesday night (10:30 p.m. ET vs. the Mighty Mighty Ducks). It's the longest playoff streak in all of sports. It's a wonderful coincidence the Red Wings have a guy on their team named Tootoo and his number is 22. The streak is something I want to jot some notes about. When I was growing up, idolizing...

Will Detroit’s Inexperienced Defense Be An Issue In The Playoffs?

from Bill Roose of DetrotRedWings.com, Brendan Smith has no Stanley Cup playoff experience. The same goes for defensive partners Jakub Kindl andDanny DeKeyser. Though their lack of postseason participation certainly sends a red flag to some, their inexperience isn’t much of a concern for the Red Wings on the eve of Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals series...

Red Wings-Stars Preview

The Detroit Red Wings find themselves in an unfamiliar situation as their bid to extend a 21-year playoff streak comes down to the regular-season finale. It's a position the eliminated Dallas Stars definitely envy, though. Hotstove confirms that Jim Nill’s going to head to Dallas

Somewhat ironically: the CBC's Hotstove Tonight crew on Hockey Night in Canada confirmed that the Red Wings will lose Jim Nill to Dallas "after the season" (whether that means before or after the NHL Draft that Nill tends to run for the Wings, nobody seems to know yet), but in revealing as much, the CBC's Elliotte Friedman stated that the Wings and Stars were trying...

Detroit's Jim Nill expected to be named GM of Stars as early...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: High Praise for Nill from Howe

With the pending announcement that the Stars have hired Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill to take over their head GM job from Joe Niewendyk, I decided yesterday to solicit input from longtime Detroit Red Wings scout Mark Howe about Nill. Unfortunately, I was tied up at the Philadelphia Flyers' cleanout day media availability session with general manager Paul Holmgren...
