In a game where discipline was not a priority, the Nashville Predators lost 4-1 to the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center Wednesday night. Five times the Predators went shorthanded, but were lucky to kill off four of them. Former-Preds prospect Michael Latta was involved in one of three fights. His tout against Rich Clune came just twenty-five seconds after the opening faceoff.  Prior to the game, Latta tweeted, "Excited to play against the team who drafted me, signed me, then traded me away." That was a tell-tale sign something was going down. Gabriel Bourque scored the only goal for Nashville off a deflection, with fourteen seconds left in the game on the power play. For Washington, Eric Fehr scored twice, while Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal a piece. At the 12:39 mark of the second period, there was a scare of another injury being suffered to a Predators' forward. This time it was Patric Hornqvist, who unintentionally blocked a shot off the leg. Hornqvist went down the runway, hobbling, but returned to the ice shortly after before the end of the second. However, due to precautionary measures, Hornqvist did not return to the game after the intermission. Projected backup netminder Carter Hutton received the full start, but had a rough game allowing four goals on thirty shots. Hutton's job security isn't too strong after some weak performances this preseason thus far.
