Follow me on twitter @IanEsplen for talk about hockey, sports and life in general anytime Today I wanted to take a look at the other “Division A” teams that Vancouver will be competing against this season and try and figure out who has gotten better, who has gotten worse and who has held steady. Anaheim Ducks- 66 points (prorated 113) Notables out- Bobby Ryan Notables in- Ben Love...

Sabres Down Looking: Bobby Ryan whiff is latest example of Regier's lost touch

Follow Brandon on Twitter @B_Schlag for more Sabres banter. The date was July 3, 2003. The Buffalo Sabres had recently placed the finishing touches on another disappointing season, one in which they would finish dead last in the Northeast for the second straight year. It was the beginning of a summer pegged as a “rebuilding year,” and, much like this one, there wasn’t...

Travis Yost: On Bobby Ryan and Erik Karlsson

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- The Ottawa Senators have been playing in the National Hockey League since 1992. I don't know if they've had many days wilder than July 5, 2013. You could make the argument that two of the biggest moves on the opening of free agency were both in Ottawa. The first, Ottawa icon Daniel Alfredsson cutting bait and heading to the...

So Long, Bobby Ryan.

Anaheim Ducks' winger Bobby Ryan was dealt to the Ottawa Senators on Friday for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen, and a 2014 1st-round pick. Bobby was my second favorite Duck and second favorite hockey player behind Ryan Getzlaf, and I'm sad to see him go.Though I wish Bobby was still skating in Anaheim, at least the Ducks got a really nice package back from the Sens. Best of luck, Bobby.

Scott Niedermeyer Inducted Into The Hockey Hall Of Fame; Bobby Ryan Trade

Five new members were inducted into the Hockey Hall Of Fame today, including Chris Chelios, Brendan Shanahan, Fred Shero, Geraldine Heaney, and most important to us Californians, Scott Niedermeyer. Living in Southern California being a Vancouver Canucks fan, I didn’t have the biased that the Anaheim [Mighty] Ducks or Los Angeles Kings fans had towards each other, but growing up...

2013 NHL Free Agency: That’s a lot of cash

(Via Getty Images) By: Ryan Kiray (@RyanK_THG) Friday afternoon saw one of the more active NHL free agency debuts in recent memory, with massive amounts of money committed to players both deserving and undeserving. NHL legends switched teams. Young players were traded. To recap, we will take a look at some of the best and worst signings of the day. Some teams were not judicious with...

Morning Line

The Senators didn’t lack appreciation for Alfredsson. Go to and the first thing you see is a “Thank you” page, very classy considering the circumstances. But, it shows how careful you have to be. For just one moment, they slipped. It will never be the same. After the Bobby Ryan trade, you can debate if the Senators or the Red Wings are the truer contender...

Steve Palumbo: Anaheim Ducks Re-Sign Saku Koivu; Derek Roy Next?

The Anaheim Ducks made waves yesterday by dealing away fan-favorite and prolific 30-goal scorer, Bobby Ryan, to the Ottawa Senators for two prospects and a pick. At first the deal was shocking. Who they heck saw the Sens coming in to snatch Ryan? Not this guy. But, when you dig deeper the deal works out great for both sides. Ottawa was reeling from the loss of long-time hero...

Nichols: Weighing In On The Weekend

On Friday, July 5th, the Ottawa Senators lost the heart and soul of their team. One day after Bryan Murray expressed confidence in being able to retain Ottawa’s captain, Daniel Alfredsson spurned the Senators to ink a one-year, $5.5 million contract ($3.5 million guaranteed and $2.0 million in bonuses) with their new division rivals, the Detroit Red Wings. It has been a...
