Ilya Bryzgalov has long had a fascination with Star Wars and hockey, but now he has made it clear in which order he prefers them.
The Flyers goaltender admitted recently that he hasn’t been watching much playoff hockey since the Flyers failed to qualify for any, and when elaborating, answered as only he could.
“There’s no time,” Bryzgalov explained, “and no real interest. I’d rather watch Star Wars with my son.”
Bryz made news earlier this season involving the sci-fi franchse when he was asked by Lucasfilm to fix the lightsaber color painted on his goalie mask with Yoda, so he’s clearly a big fan. It’s hard to blame Bryzgalov for doing right by his family, then — as long as he sticks to the original movie trilogy.

The next thing that happened is kind of mind boggling.
Instead of making a play on the puck after the deflection, Bryzgalov ducked...

WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: FLYERS AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
* He had a couple good saves and a couple of head-scratching moments, but the bottom line for Ilya Bryzgalov was that he was the winning goaltender in Russia's 5-3 win over Team USA yesterday. Bryzgalov stopped 19 of 22 shots. Two of the three goals he allowed were funky ones to give up.
