Uniondale, NY -- The Islanders lost their third straight game last night; losing 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nassau Coliseum.

Pascal Dupuis scored at 17:06 in the first period give the Pens the 1-0 lead. Then a pair of ex-Islanders put the Penguins up by two goals 21 seconds into the second period. Richard Park placed a shot past Evgeni Nabokov with Arron Asham getting the assist. Jordon Staal sealed the win with an empty net goal with two minutes left in the game to make it a 3-0.

The Offense:

The Islanders may have played one of their best games during this three game losing streak. Through 60 minutes they put 33 shots on net and created good scoring opportunities.

“Well I think a lot of guy brought a little more speed to tonight game tonight,” PA Parenteau said after the game. “I think we have to generate offense, we have to get our legs going and I think a lot of guys did that especially the forwards. That’s a good sign.”

John Tavares added, “I mean I think tonight’s the best, in the last few games, where we generated chances and offense and guys were skating well and the forecheck was much better.”

Head coach Jack Capuano said that the Isles had 17-18 scoring chances.

Marc-André Fleury:

Fleury made 32 saves to shutout the Islanders and looked outstanding for all 60 minutes.  At times when the Islanders had momentum and scoring opportunities Fleury kept his team ahead. He was their best penalty killer as well. The Islanders did not convert on either of their power play chances in large part due to Fleury.

“Fleury, I think he had a real strong game,” Parenteau said about Fleury. “We had a lot of good chances, we generated offense tonight, but at the end of the day thats not enough. You have to bear down; you have to score on your scoring opportunities and we didn’t do that tonight. That’s the story of the game and I think especially are line we had a lot of jam early on and we couldn’t get one past Fleury. He had a really good game.”
