Zach Redmond, 25, D, 6'2, 205 lbs Last Year's Ranking: Honourable Mention This Year's Ranking: 17 Difference: +10   Al Montoya, 28, G, 6'2, 203 lbs Last Year's Ranking: 14 This Year's Ranking: 16 Difference: -2   This year's seventeenth and sixteenth ranked players are two players in the Winnipeg Jets organization that are headed in different directions.   Zach Redmond had four points in eight games in the NHL before a severe season-ending leg injury.  But Redmond is ready to go for 2013-14.   The 26-year old Texan born, Michigan raised defenseman spent four seasons in the NCAA with Ferris State University scoring 90 points in 141 games before spending the 2011-12 season with St. John's scoring 31 points in 72 games and earning enough of a good reputation to be called up to the Jets last year.   He had 19 points in 38 games in St. John's before hitting the Jets lineup.   Redmond is on the fringe this season with the possibility of Jacob Trouba making the Jets.  But his work ethic, skill, and affable personality will always make him an NHL defenseman.   For Al Montoya, a former sixth overall pick, went 3-1-0 with a 2.91 goals against and a .899 save percentage and one shutout in seven appearances.   Montoya hasn't played a season of 40 or more games in the NHL or AHL since 2006-07.  He did play in 31 games for the New York Islanders in 2011-12 and 21 games the season before, but has seen his majority of playing time being a backup.   But as it stands, will Al Montoya be a good enough goalie to push Ondrej Pavelec to be better?  With his shifty numbers over the seasons, I'm not sure Montoya is the guy to push Pavelec.   With the added depth in the goalie department of the organization, Montoya may be on his way out if the likes of Ed Pasquale, Connor Hellebucyk, and Eric Comrie improving through the different ranks.   For now, Montoya has the backup role behind Pavelec and can look towards a contract year where anything can happen.
