The Winnipeg Jets claimed defenseman Keaton Ellerby off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Ellerby, 24, will join a Jets blue line that is missing injured regulars Mark Stuart (hip), Jacob Trouba (neck) and Paul Postma (blood clot). Earlier this week, Winnipeg recalled defensemen Ben Chiarot and Julian Melchiori from the St. John’s IceCaps, their American Hockey League affiliate. Chiarot and Melchiori may make their NHL debuts Saturday when the Jets play the Chicago Blackhawks at MTS Centre.

The first regular season meeting between these now Central Division rivals is an alumni club meeting of sorts, with the Jets led by two veterans of the Hawks 2010 Cup, Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien, as well as 2013 Cup...
Marcus Kruger has been asked about Michael Frolik’s absence a few times already this season. His former fourth-line and penalty-killing partner is now making his mark with the Winnipeg Jets.
Kruger always wished Frolik well — well, almost always.
“I hope he’s good. Except against us,” Kruger said with a grin.
On paper, Frolik may have been labeled a fourth liner who...
DURHAM, N.H. – The regulation 60-minutes weren’t enough for the UMass Lowell River Hawks and New Hampshire Wildcats to decide a winner on Saturday night. It took an extra 3:17 into the overtime period for UMass Lowell forward Derek Arnold to tally the game-winning-goal, downing New Hampshire, 3-2. “I saw a ton of room, and I had to take the shot,” Arnold said. “I got it...
The Kings made some moves today, placing Keaton Ellerby on waivers, Jeff Carter on injured reserve, and calling up forwards Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey from their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. As for the Ellerby move, it’s hardly surprising, and it makes sense. Ellerby’s an expendable player, one who was only re-signed as insurance and a little more depth [...]
We posted earlier in the week about a roster move coming on the horizon and that Ellerby could be waived if the Kings couldn't find a suitable trade. It looks like that was the case.
No word yet on the severity of the injury Jeff Carter sustained or how much time he'll miss. Having Carter out of the roster will be a big blow for a Kings team that has struggled to score goals...
Well, we all expected a roster move after about a week of speculation. While one aspect of it is pretty predictable, the other one is kind of a shock.
Today the Kings waived defenseman Keaton Ellerby who had yet to play in a regular season game, and they put Jeff Carter, who is tied for the team lead in goals, on IR. In their steed comes the young guns of Tyler Toffoli and Linden...
