Found February 02, 2014 on Minus Twenty-Two:
Joe Thornton never heard his name called for a shootout for three seasons before the current campaign. Now he’s three-for-three in shootout goals this year, and after laying waste to Corey Crawford with a beautiful toe-drag move in the Sharks 2-1 shootout win over the Blackhawks last night, he might be getting the skills competition call more often. Observe: One more time: I believe that’s what those in basketball circles call “breaking the ankles.” Totally demoralizing. Hopefully grief counseling was made available to Crawford after the game. video via Deadspin; GIF via @cjzero

Joe Thornton scores a ‘Datsyukian’ shootout goal

Jumbo Joe hasn’t played particularly well since getting a new 3 year, 6.75 AAV contract extension a week ago, but he has been clutch. Thornton (no points in his last 4 games) scored an OT winner last week against Minnesota and this shootout tying beauty last night. I guess Joe has been practicing these two moves lately, though he didn’t execute it as well:   The post Joe Thornton...

Stalock's free agency status depends on playing time

Sharks goalie Alex Stalock’s next contract could depend on more than just his performance. Stalock, currently listed as a pending restricted free agent on Capgeek.com, would become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent at season's end unless the team greatly increases the backup’s workload. The 26-year-old would have to play at least 30 minutes in 14 more regular season or...

Niklas Hjalmarsson adding offensive punch to his game

Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson often can go unnoticed playing behind the team’s top pairing of Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith. But even as the team struggled in January, Hjalmarsson remained one of the Hawks’ most dependable players. He easily would be in the top defensive pair on many NHL teams. “Hammer is always very consistent in his game,” coach Joel Quenneville...

Slumping Sharks won't rush back Logan Couture

Logan Couture won't be rushed back into the lineup. Sharks coach Todd McLellan made that perfectly clear this week. But with just five goals in the past five games and three straight losses, the Sharks certainly could use a certain jolt with four games left before the Olympic break begins for the team on Feb. 8. McLellan said before Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames...

Chicago Blackhawks Hockey – The Chicago Blackhawks are making strides in the right direction when it comes to penalty kills. Those pesky two minutes are important regardless of if you are the team that has the advantage or if you are the team that has to play impeccable defense being a man short.
