The Bruins can’t buy a break when it comes to defensemen, and that continued Sunday night in Toronto.
With Dougie Hamilton already out with presumably a lower-body injury suffered in the first period, the Bruins also lost Kevan Miller in the final moments of an eventual 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs.
Miller was the victim of what looked to be an illegal hit from Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf. Although Miller had his back to the ice and was a foot or two away from the boards, Phaneuf planted Miller with a big hit. Miller’s face went into the boards and glass before he fell to the ice. He was initially shaken up, but he eventually skated off. However, he ended up going down the tunnel and didn’t return. There was only 2:17 to play when the hit happened.
Somehow, the hit was not penalized.

The Boston Bruins have found themselves in the middle of some ugly hits and incidents on the ice over the past few days, and the latest ones comes via Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller is absolutely destroyed by Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf. There's no sense to this hit, this is a major penalty, in my opinion. This is a dangerous hit and has no place in any level of hockey. The refs in this instance should be fined for not making the proper call. Dion Phaneuf landed a brutal and highly illegal hit on Kevan Miller late in the third period of Sunday’s Leafs game against the Bruins, but he did manage to flatten somebody with a clean hit earlier in the game.
Unfortunately for Phaneuf, that somebody was Phil Kessel, his own teammate.

I think the suspension should be longer, but that's the breaks. It's a good thing that Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand wasn't hurt by the dirty play. Nice to see that Dion Phaneuf will probably be getting suspended for his dirty hit on Kevan Miller. 5 games for Neal.
