Five players combined for eight goals Tuesday night in a double-troubling game for goaltenders at Bridgestone Arena. The Avalanche's execution was poor at times, but the result was perfect. Colorado emerged victorious over Nashville 5-4 in a shootout. The likely playoff-bound Avs (45-21-6) got skilled goals from captain Gabe Landeskog (two), Cody McLeod and Nick Holden and managed to kill off Holden's late high-sticking minor to force overtime and collect one point against the struggling Predators. A scoreless overtime led to a shootout, and Colorado got another point with goals by Ryan O'Reilly and Landeskog and Sem yon Varlamov's two saves. "Sometimes it's nice to win a game when you're not playing well. That was the case tonight," said Avs coach Patrick Roy, whose team was coming off a disheartening 2-0 loss to Boston on Friday. "I thought we deserved better against the Bruins, and tonight it was the opposite, and we find a way to win that...

Multi-goal efforts from Josi, Cullen not enough to propel Predators past Avalanche

Scoring more than three goals a game has been one of Nashville’s recipes of success over the past handful of years. This season for the Predators, what can go wrong will seemingly go wrong. Sacrificing leads of 2-0, 3-2, and 4-3, the Nashville Predators would squander two-goal nights from both Roman Josi and Matt Cullen, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Colorado Avalanche in a shootout...
