Vinny Lecavalier saw seven coaches in his 14 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Each coached his own way whether it was an offensive style defensive style or some hybrid of the two. For the first time in his career at age 33 the center was a free agent this summer when the Lightning bought out his contract. It was partially Peter Laviolette’s fast-paced intense system that attracted him to sign with the Flyers. Now that Laviolette is gone and Craig Berube is in charge does Lecavalier still feel he made the right decision to come to Philadelphia? “Of course” he said with a laugh after practice Thursday. Berube’s new system places an emphasis on defense. Forwards now have clear assignments in their own zone giving defenders an outlet to break out. It’s a little different from Laviolette’s quick-up-the-ice style. “I still think it’s fast-paced” Lecavalier said. “If you look at our practices the last two days they’re really high tempo. He wants a high-paced hockey game. Obvious...

Lightning’s Bishop is day-to-day with lower-body injury

Tampa Bay has recalled goalie Kristers Gudlevskis from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. TAMPA BAY -- The Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning are assured of winning the Cup this season. The Governor's Cup, that is. Gov. The team with the most points at the end of the season...

Stamkos gets sixth hat trick as Bolts trounce Panthers

Before Thursday’s home opener Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper pulled Steven Stamkos aside for a quick chat. There was no body language no sense of frustration or any other kind of signs that might indicate one of the league’s top goal scorers was pressing over not scoring any goals in the first three games of the season. But Cooper wanted to check just in case. “To...
