Puck Drunk Love:
It's easy to laugh at this. As the two outcasts in the Flortheast division, the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning more than likely aren't going to be contenders for the Stanley Cup this season. The pretty stacked Atlantic Division has the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins, who are two early favorites this year.
The Panthers and Lightning shouldn't worry, though. They'll be able to duke it out for a pretty nice consolation prize. Florida governor Rick Scott announced the creation of the Governor's Cup today, to be awarded to the Florida team who wins the head-to-head match-up.
Don't be dismissive; this is a pretty good deal for local hockey and charity. From the press release:
The winner of the annual season series between the two Atlantic Division and in-state rivals will be awarded the Governor’s Cup following the final matchup of the season and each team will make a donation to the other team’s youth hockey initiatives. In additio...

TAMPA, Fla. -- On a night when the new Tampa Bay Lightning were introduced to their home crowd, with Jon Cooper working through his first October hockey as a head coach at the NHL level, there was comforting consistency found with captain Marty St. Louis.
The Lightning routed the Florida Panthers 7-2, with Steven Stamkos receiving most of the attention with his sixth career hat...
According to Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen, Panthers goalie Tim Thomas may or may not be placed on injured reserve later today. If he were to go to the IR, it would mean he would be out of the lineup for at least a week. This stemming from the groin injury he suffered against the Flyers earlier this week. Per George Richards of the Miami Herald, the 39 year old Thomas...

The move comes after Ben Bishop sustained an injury during last night’s 7-2 win over the Panthers according to the Lightning’s assistant GM Julien Brisebois.
Bishop is reportedly day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The 26-year-old played the entire game versus the Panthers.

Last night was the home opener in Florida. On a night where Penguins fans expected the only surprise from the "Hello Kitty" Florida Panthers was going to be their new scoreboard over the ice surface, it turned out that the Panthers had more things to share than just a new red box over their ice surface when they beat the Penguins 6-3. Though, the box was impressive.
Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamoks scored a hat trick and one very enthusiastic groupie in the team’s 7-2 win over the Florida Panthers.
It’s not uncommon for rival teams to add a little spice to their competition. Take the Red Sox, for example, who typically play a bulk of their Spring Training games against their Fort Myers, FL. cross-town rival Minnesota Twins just six miles down the road. Whichever team wins the most head-to-head matchups takes home the Mayor’s Cup. While winning the Cup doesn’t mean much...
Coming off an explosive offensive display, Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning are starting to pick up steam.
Keeping things going, though, could prove difficult against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has recently had their number.
Seeking a fourth consecutive win, the Lightning try to snap a six-game losing streak to the visiting Penguins, who hope to bounce back from...
The Tampa Bay Lightning have demonstrated an early knack for comeback victories.
Their coach would like to see a more complete performance.
Tampa Bay follows a three-game trip with its home opener Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.
The Lightning are 2-1-0 despite not holding a lead in regulation. After a 3-1 loss at Boston last Thursday, they scrapped for a 3-2 shootout...
