On a night where new head coach Jon Cooper was in the building, Tampa Bay were impressive defensively, beating the Buffalo Sabres 2-1. The Lightning forced Buffalo into several turnovers and miscues at the blue line periodically throughout the game. The scoring started when Steven Stamkos got his 23rd goal of the season on a power play in the first period. In the second, the Lightning would add to the lead off a one-timer from Martin St. Louis on another power play, assisted by Stamkos. The mood was positive in the Bolts clubhouse after the victory. “It feels great. We did a great job of building off last game. We didn’t get the result we wanted in Winnipeg, but we played a solid game,” Stamkos said. “Today we started from the get go and we finished with a solid game. We wanted the puck today. We made plays and it showed out there.” Steven Stamkos had a two-point night and ranks second in the NHL with 43 points. The Lightning are now 86-41-13 when Stamkos scores a goal since the start of the 2009-10 season.
