With a possible lockout looming in the National Hockey League, players are getting restless and resorting to other ways to continue to play if a work stoppage occurs. For Lightning players Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis, there will be no hesitation on their end to go overseas to play.

“I don’t want to take a year off. If the NHL wants to shut us down, we’ll go play somewhere else,” St. Louis said via The Tampa Bay Times. Stamkos would agree with his teammate adding that he has thought about it.

Both the NHL and NHLPA have been working on getting a deal done for some time. There have been tense moments to where the talks would end late morning or early afternoon and not resume until a day after.

The current collective bargaining agreement expires on September 15th. If no deal is in place by then, Commissioner Gary Bettman has not backed down from saying the league will impose a work stoppage. If there is and the league locks players out, St. Louis, Stamkos, and others will continue to play elsewhere while risking injuries at the same time.
