Detroit's first game of our simulated season started out strong and the Red Wings beat the Predators 6-2. This is all fake. Recap after the jump: The Wings got off to a quick start as Franzen scored on Detroit's first shot at 00:48 of the first period. His wrist shot from the boards surprised Rinne and beat him up high. The Predators scored two quick goals midway through the first and took a 2-1 lead into the intermission. In the first minute of the second period, Shea Weber took a run at Zetterberg and jumped into his check. Zetterberg was shaken up and stayed down for a while as the Joe Louis Arena crowed booed Weber, who was given 5 minutes for charging, but was not thrown out of the game. Zetterberg would return, but he missed the 5 minute power play. Nashville only allowed one shot on goal during the 5 minute major, but Datsyuk scored just as the power play expired. Franzen's shot from the left wing hit Hal Gill and went right to Datsyuk who was waiting in the slot. His snap shot beat Rinne high to the glove side. Less than a minute later, Hank returned to get his revenge. He took a tough angle slap shot that found a hole in Rinne's pads for a 3-2 Detroit lead. Bertuzzi scored the next goal on a breakaway at 19:10. He took a pass from Helm and beat Rinne low to the stick side with a sneaky wrist shot. When asked if he thought he would go into another goal drought like last year when he scored in game 1, Bertuzzi picked up the reporter and broke his back over his knee. Bert then sat down and calmly asked if there were anymore questions. Detroit continued their domination in the third. After Nashville's second goal, they didn't get another shot through until midway through the third period. When asked about Detroit's defensive dominance, coach Babcock said, "Well, what did you expect? We have Kyle Quincey on our second pair-- Ha! Oh my gosh, I can't say it with a straight face! We totally got lucky." Detroit added two more goals in the third. Abdelkader beat Rinne from the blue line of all places with a slap shot that found its way through traffic. "Puck luck." said Abdelkader as he accidentally high sticked Drew Miller. Nyquist finished up Detroit's scoring with a wrist shot from the left circle. This was Nyquist's second career goal, but his first against an actual goalie. His first goal against Chris Mason doesn't really count. Final score: NSH 2 DET 6 NOHS Three Stars of the Fake Game: First Star: Hank finished with 1G and 2A and +2. His first game as digital captain and he came back from injury to record 3 points and the GWG. Works for me! Second Star: Franzen. 1G 1A. Third Star: Datsyuk. 1G 1A on 6 shots. He was everywhere tonight. Not a bad start to a fake season. Next game will be Tuesday, October 16. Road game vs Buffalo. I would ask if Howard would get the start, but Babcock is still laughing at how lucky our defense got. LGdRW!
