Daniel Alfredsson was captain of the Ottawa Senators for 13 seasons. Coach Paul MacLean is in no rush to name his replacement. MacLean said Friday there's no timetable to name a new Senators captain after Alfredsson left the team to sign as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings. "We're going to go through a process" MacLean said according to the Senators' website. "I've got to spend some time talking to the individuals talking to (general manager) Bryan Murray talking to my coaching staff. "We've done a lot of preliminary talk about it but we're going to let the process -- it's going to be a process but I don't think it's going to be a difficult one -- and we just have to take the time and get through it. ... I'm not going to put a timeline on it. When we make the decision that's the day it's going to be." sked what he's looking for in a captain MacLean said "Someone who does it right every day a...

Detroit Red Wings: Finding space for Thomas Tatar

The hockey preseason is about two weeks away. If you didn’t realize that I understand, football season is here. I get it. But for those that did, don’t get too excited it’s still only the preseason, #IsItOctoberYet. Important season ahead for Thomas Tatar. (Photo Credit: Cory Morse / Mlive.com) It’s fair to say we have already been introduced to a majority of the young faces...

Strange sight: Daniel Alfredsson in a Red Wings uniform

When Daniel Alfredsson signed a deal with the Detroit Red Wings, we all knew the sight of him in a Detroit uniform would be an odd one. Little did we know just how odd it would look.  Detroit's official Twitter account provided the first look of Alfredsson in a Red Wings jersey. The photo looks truly bizarre and is bound to make Ottawa fans feel pretty gloomy. After spending...

Red Wings overnight report: on packin’ up, Quincey, Filppula, Alfredsson and charitable Whalers

The Red Wings were a little busy at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, and I'm not talking about the players who took part in Friday's informal practice (Daniel Alfredsson included): What does it take to get the Wings to Traverse City for Camp? A lot of people, a lot of hours & a truckload of gear. pic.twitter.com/uxIbqqKMKt — Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings...

Alfredsson skates as Red Wing

After a tumultuous summer, Daniel Alfredsson was finally back to doing what he does best - playing hockey. Alfredsson made his Red Wings' debut Friday at Joe Louis Arena - wearing number 11, so long Dan Cleary - taking part in an informal practice session with several teammates including Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg. It felt good to finally come here and skate, Alfredsson...

Fox Sports Detroit’s Regner speaks with new Red Wing Daniel Alfredsson

Daniel Alfredsson made his first "official" (at least media-viewed) appearance at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, and after taking part in an informal skate with the Wings, he spoke with Fox Sports Detroit's Art Regner about his acclimatization process... “It felt good to finally come here and skate,” Alfredsson said. “It’s been a few months since I signed,...

Does This Make Any Sense?

Someone please tell me why Detroit's bankruptcy was brought up in this statement? from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe, The Red Wings on Friday tweeted the first pictures of newcomer Daniel Alfredsson on the ice, wearing his bright red Winged Wheel sweater. Painful for most onlookers from Ottawa, and a few here in the Hub of Hockey. The Bruins made an aggressive...

MacLean Speaks, Hits Nail on the Head

Photo: Cory Conacher glances at Paul MacLean while putting in extra practice time at the Bell Sensplex during today's Senators hockey camp for kids.  While some guy was skating for the first time in a Red Wings jersey, last season’s Jack Adams winner (damn, that feels good to say), spoke to the media for the first time in what feels like ages and addressed a number of...

Travis Yost: Mika Weekend

Seems fitting to move the discussion to Swedish youngster Mika Zibanejad on the long weekend, especially after the whole DJ Z-Bad stuff on Friday. There was an interesting comment made by head coach Paul MacLean a few days ago about where Bobby Ryan would slot in with respect to the lineup, and his answer was something along the lines of: "He'll play alongside whichever...
