Found September 11, 2012 on The Hockey Program:
PLAYERS: Gary Bettman
The Hockey Program mailbag session continues with another question sent by Captain Spaulding (@midtnweather) via Twitter. Spaulding asks, "Is there any chance of a lockout being cancelled?".Gary Bettman, Commissioner of the National Hockey League.Yes there is a chance that the NHL lockout can be lifted. Right now, the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is set to expire this Saturday, September 15. If the NHL and the Players' Association don't agree to a new CBA by that date at 11:59 PM ET, there will be a lockout. However, the NHL and NHLPA do have plenty of time to get a new CBA. The 2012-13 NHL regular season doesn't start until October 11, which is the date the NHLPA feels that the deadline to get a new deal done is. Of course that pains the fans, writers and even myself, but as long as there is hockey, everyone should all be happy.Another deadline which could be made is Thanksgiving Day. That day in which we should all be thankful for family could turn ...

Bettman: Another NHL lockout looms

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman maintains the league will lock out players Sunday if a new labor deal isn't reached, and star player Sidney Crosby isn't optimistic the season will start on time. With both sides far apart and little time before the current deal expires at midnight EDT Saturday, the league's board of governors met in New York on Thursday as a group of more...

Here’s Gary Bettman in the most Gary Bettman photo ever (pic)

Would you look at that? I came across this photo of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in the newspaper this morning and something about it caused such a visceral reaction in me I couldn’t resist briefly commenting on it any longer. The smugness of it all is what’s most striking. The perceived arrogance that can be [...]

Tweet(s) of the day... Doom and gloom

Gary Bettman shut down his Twitter account today. That's not the biggest thing he'll shut down this week. — Down Goes Avery (@DownGoesAvery) September 12, 2012 This is the tweet of the day in my opinion. It's also sad because I do believe that there is definitely going to be a lockout. This afternoon, the NHLPA turned down the owner's latest proposal. ...

Bettman fiddles as NHL lockout looms

(AP) -- All these years later, and especially now with the prospect of a lockout looming large this weekend, it's hard to look at a picture of Gary Bettman without recalling the going-away present one NBA general manager sent the soon-to-be-named NHL commissioner. That was in 1993, when Bettman left his post as general counsel and trusted lieutenant to NBA boss David Stern to...

NHL & commish Bettman make final offer to NHLPA as time winds down

I haven’t written about hockey in a while because like most traumatic events, I’ve been trying to block out the impending lockout. Losing even one game of the Flyers’ season is something that is completely unacceptable to me.  However, the clock is ticking, and time for the NHL and NHLPA to get a deal done is running out… And quickly! Gary Bettman, the NHL commissioner long...

Lock Out Looming

According to an article on ESPN, NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, received an unanimous vote from the owners to lock out the players if no agreement is in place by the end of Saturday September 15th 2012. If the lock out is to happen it would be the third time in Bettman's reign of commissioner that the league has had a work stoppage. To add to the sorrow, 283 players showed...

NHL, NHLPA exchange offers as talks resume

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL made a counterproposal to an offer presented by the players' association and said it would be in effect only until the weekend when the current collective bargaining agreement expires. The players union made its presentation on Wednesday morning, but that was quickly dismissed by Commissioner Gary Bettman, who said it wasn't much different than earlier...

NHL Issues Final Offer Before Season is Locked Out

Take it or leave it.  That was the gist of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's statements on Wednesday afternoon, as the league prepared its final CBA offer to the players before the 2012-13 season is officially locked out as of Saturday at midnight. Completely disregarding the previous offer from the NHLPA, which Bettman claimed was not much different from their original, the...

After three hours of negotiations, the National Hockey League and National Hockey Players' Association both gave each other proposals Wednesday. The NHLPA gave their proposal to the NHL at the start of the meeting in New York City Wednesday morning. Recap Of Today’s CBA Meeting In NYC

from TSN,  Speaking to reporters in New York, Fehr said it was too early to characterize whether or not the proposal means talks are progressing, he commented that both proposals tabled on Wednesday were consistent with each side's previous principles in talks. Forget The NHL?

from Andrew Gross of the Record,  From time to time at Madison Square Garden, I’ve bumped into David Gottlieb, a Rangers’ season-ticket holder since 1997 who bleeds the clichéd blue and whose passion for his team is typical of most die-hard NHL fans. But with the NHL facing a Saturday deadline for its third lockout since 1994 and fourth labor stoppage since 1992, Gottlieb...
