The New Jersey Devils face the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a nerve wracking and unnecessarily close first round series with the Florida Panthers.  If we learned anything in the Florida series, it’s that the Devils are still as unpredictable as ever. Many of the bad habits that haunted them during the regular season came back to hurt them again in the playoffs.  I thought they appeared to be waiting for the wheels to fall off many times against the Panthers. But, they hung in there long enough to win and hopefully put their shaky start behind them.  The Devils advanced into the second round for the first time in five years and that in itself has lifted the 2500 lb. gorilla off of their backs. I expect the team to show more composure against the Flyers, especially after two gutsy overtime wins to preserve the season.  New Jersey heads to Philadelphia in an attempt to extinguish the red hot Flyers, a team that dismantled and dismembered a Pi

Flyers 4, Devils 3 (OT)

PHILADELPHIA -- Danny Briere scored his second goal of the game 4:36 into overtime to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series Sunday. Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk also scored for Philadelphia. Petr Sykora, Zach Parise and Travis Zajac had New Jersey's goals. Minutes after...

Philadelphia Flyers Take Down New Jersey Devils in Overtime

The overtime drama continued in the NHL playoffs Sunday, but this time it was between Philadelphia and New Jersey. The Devils thought they had escaped a scare in overtime after a Flyers goal was called back, but Philadelphia then scored for good. Here are the recaps from the games that took place Sunday, April 29. Be sure to check out more of our in-depth Associated Press recaps...

2012 NHL Playoffs: second-round predictions

The New Jersey Devils rounded out the teams that advanced to the second-round of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs Thursday night on the strength of rookie Adam Henrique's incredible Game 7 performance. Henrique opened and closed the scoring in double overtime to end the Florida Panthers first playoff appearance in ten years. *****My second round Stanley Cup playoff predictions...

Flyers Beat The Devils 4-3 In OT To Win Game 1

A pretty exciting game to watch on a Sunday afternoon. The Flyers had a rough first period after a lengthy break, but picked it up after that. The Devils need to be much more responsible in their defensive zone in order to compete with Philadelphia. Here is the OT goal by Danny Briere… added 6:33pm, Watch below the Briere disallowed goal in OT, I thought the correct call...

Devils-Flyers Preview

Jaromir Jagr's long hair that once flowed beneath his helmet is much shorter now, and his playoff beard has plenty of gray in it. Like the man he'll be shooting pucks at in the next round of the playoffs, Jagr is the old man in the dressing room these days. But both Jagr and Martin Brodeur have shown they have plenty of game left. The familiar foes will meet again when...

Briere Nets Two, Flyers Burn Devils in OT

The Flyers, despite another slow start in the 1st period on Sunday afternoon, were able to defeat the NJ Devils in overtime of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, 4-3. Danny Briere has truly lived up to his title of "Mr. Playoffs" yet again this year, netting 2 goals (the Flyers' first and GW in OT) en route to the Flyers victory. In case you missed the game...

The Stars Have Left The Playoffs

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star, Hope you had fun in the first round of the NHL playoffs. Fun just left town. Unless the Philadelphia Flyers can provide enough fireworks for the entire class, we appear destined for a second round of games in which 2-1 will be the third-period score most nights, highlight packages will be mighty thin and shot-blocking will be more prominent...

Another Atlantic Altercation Awaits - ECSF Preview

You might almost be inclined to call the Flyers lucky. The only way to overcome their defensive shortcomings versus the Penguins last round was to put on a supreme display of offensive and special teams work. The Flyers rose to the challenge in record breaking fashion, dominating Pittsburgh with a lethal power play and slick penalty killing, a tenacious offense hell bent on disrupting...
