Game of the night:

8:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

Overall: Canucks (27-14-3) … Blues (25-12-5)
Away/Home: Canucks (15-9-1) … Blues (17-3-2)
Last 10: Canucks (6-3-1) … Blues (6-3-1)
Season Series: 2-0 Blues

Starting goaltenders:
VAN- Roberto Luongo (2011-12 stats: 17-9-3, 2.37 GAA)
STL- Brian Elliott (2011-12 stats: 15-5-0, 1.62 GAA)

Injury report:
VAN- Sami Salo (concussion, out), David Booth (knee, out), Andrew Ebbett and Aaron Volpatti (shoulder, out), Aaron Rome (thumb, out)
STL- Barrett Jackman (undisclosed, questionable), Alexander Steen and Andy McDonald (concussion, out), Kris Russell (groin, out), Kent Huskins (ankle, out)

Three things to watch:
1. St. Louis’ home dominance
The Blues have proven to be a tough team to beat at Scottrade Center this season. With a record of 17-3-2, they rank second in the NHL in points percentage on home ice. They are 9-0-1 in their last 10 home games, and have lost only twice in regulation since Ken Hitchcock took over. St. Louis also has a +30 goal differential at home, third-best in the league.
2. Roberto Luongo or Cory Schneider?
Luongo and Schneider have each started twice in Vancouver’s last four games. Luongo has been solid en route to splitting the two decisions, while Schneider has given up seven goals in two victories. Luongo has a 13-11-0 career record against the Blues, while Schneider is 1-1-0 in two starts. If I had to guess, it’d be Luongo in net since Schneider played Tuesday. Nothing would surprise me, though.
3. David Backes taking over
The Blues captain has elevated his game to another level recently, putting the team on his back at times. Backes has six points in the last four games, goals in three straight. He has 15 points and a +7 rating in his last 16 games. There won’t be much space to be had tonight, so Backes’ big body will come into play in the hard areas.

Final thought: These are the top two teams in the conference standings. The Blues have beaten the Canucks in both meetings thus far, and both wins came with Davis Payne behind the bench. Vancouver is playing well and will figure St. Louis out tonight. Prediction: Canucks 3, Blues 2 (OT)

The rest of today’s predictions:
Bruins over Canadiens
Flyers over Islanders
Rangers over Senators
Lightning over Hurricanes
Red Wings over Coyotes
Predators over Avalanche
Sharks over Jets
Blackhawks over Wild
Ducks over Flames
Kings over Stars
