Game of the night:
New York Rangers @ Boston Bruins
1:00 ET… TV: NHL Net. (US), Local Networks

Overall: Rangers (29-12-4) … Bruins (30-13-1) Away/Home: Rangers (15-7-2) … Bruins (16-7-1)
Last 10: Rangers (7-3-0) … Bruins (6-4-0)
Season Series: First meeting this season

Starting goaltenders:
NYR- Henrik Lundqvist (2011-12 stats: 20-10-4, 1.93 GAA)
BOS- Tim Thomas (2011-12 stats: 19-9-0, 2.02 GAA)

Injury report:
NYR - Brad Richards (neck, likely), Michael Sauer (concussion, out) and Jeff Woywitka (foot, out). BOS - Marc Savard (concussion, out indefinitely).

Three things to watch:
1. Vezina Trophy
The Vezina Trophy race will be neck-and-neck this season between Lundqvist and Thomas in the East and Jonathan Quick and Jimmy Howard out West. Very rarely do we get to see two MVP-worthy starting goalies face each other in the regular season so it should be a treat to watch. Expect both elite netminders to bring their A-game.
2. Who wants it more?
Last time these two teams faced each other, the Rangers won by playing their game and staying true to their identity. Because of that, they defeated a coasting Bruins team 5-3 en route to making the playoffs. The Rangers captain, Ryan Callahan, blocked a booming Zdeno Chara slapshot in the final minutes that shattered his ankle and ended this season. With two well-rounded, hard-working and gritty teams facing off, expect both teams to leave it all on the ice.
3. Beasts of the East
While this game is played in January, it should have the feel of a playoff contest. Furthermore, the victor could take sole possession of the first seed as the Rangers are currently only one point up on the Bruins. A win in regulation would give the Bruins that seat back.

Final thought: Both teams have played at a higher level with a sense of relative ease. However, this game should be a test for all involved. Due to that, we think the game will be low scoring. Prediction: Bruins 2, Rangers 1

The rest of today’s predictions:
Devils over Flyers Ducks over Senators Canucks over Sharks Jets over Panthers Canadiens over Maple Leafs Islanders over Hurricanes Red Wings over Blue Jackets Blues over Sabres Lightning over Coyotes Blackhawks over Predators Stars over Wild Flames over Oilers Kings over Avalanche ---
