DET- Jimmy Howard (groin, questionable), Joey MacDonald (back, questionable), Darren Helm (knee, out), Patrick Eaves (concussion, out)

Three things to watch:
1. Playoff implications
Outside of the wild race for the Pacific Division crown, tonight’s game in Detroit could have the biggest impact on the races in the West as the Red Wings and Predators battle it out for first-round home ice. With a regulation win, Detroit can move ahead of Nashville by three points for fourth. On the flip side, a win for the Predators puts them in the driver’s seat.
2. Who will play in net for the Wings?
The big question mark coming into this game is who tonight’s goaltender will be for Detroit. Will it be Ty Conklin, who has looked anything but an NHL goaltender since he was called up? Or will it be Jimmy Howard, who is fighting a nagging groin injury? With the game as big as it is, Mike Babcock will be pressured to start Howard.
3. Preds in Detroit
The Preds remember their last trip to the Motor City. It wasn’t a good result. Pavel Datsyuk scored with 5 seconds left to propel the Wings to a 2-1 win. The Preds have yet to win in Joe Louis Arena this season, but they normally play pretty well there. In their last six trips to the historic building, the Preds have claimed three victories. They are due for a win in Detroit.

Final thoughts: This is a big one. Nashville comes into this game feeling they have something to prove to Detroit, in what could be a playoff preview. Meanwhile, the Wings haven’t played well for a month now. If the Preds get off to a good start they’ll win this game. Prediction: Predators 3, Red Wings 2

The rest of today’s predictions:
Hurricanes over Jets
Panthers over Blue Jackets
Rangers over Canadiens
Penguins over Sabres
Avalanche over Flames
Kings over Oilers
Canucks over Stars
