Game thoughts:Tonight, the New Jersey Devils will try to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2003. And like 2003, they will try to capture the Stanley Cup. However, they face the tough task of trying to eliminate the Flyers on home ice.

The Flyers have been spurned by the Devils' aggressive style of play and need to counter with elevated play of their own. But they will need to do so without offensive leader Claude Giroux, who was suspended for his questionable hit on Dainius Zubrus. Can the Flyers hold off elimination and force a Game 6? This game could go either way.
Prediction: Devils 2, Flyers 1 (OT)

'Unreal' Smith carries Coyotes to new heights

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- With four seconds on the clock Monday night and the Predators making one last attempt to stay alive in the Western Conference semifinals, Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith sent a clearing attempt 165 feet down the ice toward an empty Nashville net. Wide right, by about a foot. "I just said, 'Why'd you miss the net?'" Coyotes coach Dave Tippett...

Staal Feeling Better & Better

After scoring the game winner in overtime last night, Marc Staal addressed his recovery from post concussion syndrome with Katie Strang at ESPN NY..."I'm certainly feeling better and better. As the year has gone on, I've felt better and better. Playoffs are a lot of fun and I'm having fun with it."...yeah, I'd say he's feeling much better. As the season...

Coyotes will meet Kings to decide West

Mike Smith stopped 32 shots and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Nashville Predators 2-1 on Monday night to earn their first trip to the Western Conference finals. The Coyotes learned earlier in the day that a tentative deal with a new owner had been reached. They followed up with another tight victory, withstanding a late goal by Nashville's Colin Wilson to reach the conference...

The Mike Smith Led Phoenix Coyotes Advance To The Western Conference Finals

What can you say, the Phoenix Coyotes played a relentless series to defeat the Nashville Predators 4-1 in the series. Once again Mike Smith was almost unbeatable, in the 2-1 win, stopping 32 shots while the Coyotes fired 17 at Rinne. The Coyotes will have some time to rest up and prepare for the Los Angeles Kings. Watch the game winning goal by Martin Hanzal.

Should the Rangers Target Ovechkin?

My answer is an overwhelming YES. And no I don't mean send Mike Rupp out there to fight him. What I'd like to see the Rangers do is hit him everytime he's near the puck. Make life miserable for him. With the exception of the Marc Staal hit, they haven't done that at all this series.Very reminscent of last series, when they said they were going to be physical with...

Coyotes reach first conference final, beat Preds

The Coyotes learned earlier in the day that a tentative deal with a new owner had been reached. They followed up with another tight victory, withstanding a late goal by Nashville's Colin Wilson...

Coyotes eliminate Predators in game five

Nashville's suspended players made a return to the lineup in Phoenix on Monday night, but it didn't matter. Nothing the Predators did could best Phoenix's Mike Smith, who had an incredible series, particularly stumping the Predators in the final two games of the series. The Predators played with the sense of urgency that is to be expected in an elimination game; they...

Coyotes deserve to be advancing

Yes, the Predators didn’t bury the majority of their chances all series. Yes, the distraction of Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn was self-inflicted. Yes, the Predators could have been better in a lot of areas of the game. But the Phoenix Coyotes deserved to win this series. Plain and simple.A lot of good teams run into a hot team or goaltender in the playoffs and it ends...

Coyotes 2, Predators 1

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes keep building momentum -- on the ice and off the ice Monday. Hours after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman held a press conference to provide a promising update on the sale of the club to former San Jose Sharks executive Greg Jamison, the Coyotes reached uncharted territory with a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators at Arena. ...

Western Conference Semi Finals: Game 5 – Nashville @ Phoenix

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via Getty Images It’s the inevitable cliché. The Predators “back is against the wall…one game at a time…sudden death” moment. Nashville dropped a heart-breaker Friday night against the Phoenix Coyotes by a score of 1-0. It was the kind of game that most talking heads on the networks and covering both teams said would be the epitome of a series...
