Players to watch:

‘The Mule’ has snapped out of his funk with nine points in the last five games.
SJ- Ryane Clowe
San Jose will need their secondary forwards like Clowe on their A-game tonight.

Starting goaltenders:
DET- Jimmy Howard (2011-12 stats: 8-4-1, 1.69 GAA)
SJ- Antti Niemi (2011-12 stats: 6-2-1, 2.74 GAA)

Injury report:
DET- Ian White (cheek, out), Todd Bertuzzi (illness, out)
SJ- Antero Niittymaki (hip, out)

Game thoughts:
For the first time since last March, the Red Wings and Sharks renew acquaintances tonight in the Shark Tank. After the Wings owned the Sharks for many years, it’s been the opposite over the last two years; Team Teal is 12-5 against Detroit in their last 17 meetings, including the playoffs. Detroit has struggled on the road, while San Jose has been inconsistent at home, which makes this game a tough one to call. The Wings are due for a loss and the Sharks are looking to end their six-game home stand on a high note.
Prediction: Sharks 2, Red Wings 1

The rest of today’s predictions:
Bruins over Blue Jackets
Islanders over Canadiens
Flyers over Coyotes
Penguins over Lightning
Blues over Panthers
Predators over Maple Leafs
Wild over Avalanche
Capitals over Jets
Oilers over Senators
Ducks over Kings

Devils Alley: Looking Back at Boston and Looking Forward To Buffalo

It's not often that everything I address in an article actually gets played out on the ice, but the Devils did a good job of fixing things in their offense despite losing 4-3 to Boston last night. The first concern was the team's powerplay, which without Ilya Kovalchuk in the lineup had gone 0-17 since November 4th. Head coach Pete DeBoer put in extra time with both units...
