The Nashville Predators (6-5-2) faceoff against the Los Angeles Kings (9-5-0) Saturday night in their second of three meetings this season. The Predators look to rebound from a tough loss in overtime against Phoenix on Thursday. Los Angeles will be without Jeff Carter tonight. That’s a huge blow for the Kings. They have struggled scoring goals this season, only averaging 2.6 goals per game. That means the Predators need to do their best to capitalize.

Nashville: #11 F David Legwand. Legwand had a breakout game Thursday night netting 1 goal and 2 assists. They will need big production out of him to pull out a win tonight.
Los Angeles: #11 C Anze Kopitar. With Carter heading to the IR, the Kings will lean hard on Kopitar for the next few games to produce offense.

Forward Jeff Carter, who shares the Kings' goal-scoring lead with five goals, was placed on injured reserve Friday morning because of a lower-body injury.
He's expected to be out for at least a week, and possibly longer. The NHL does not require teams to be specific when announcing injuries. Carter, who has been playing center most of this season but has also played on the...

Well, we all expected a roster move after about a week of speculation. While one aspect of it is pretty predictable, the other one is kind of a shock.
Today the Kings waived defenseman Keaton Ellerby who had yet to play in a regular season game, and they put Jeff Carter, who is tied for the team lead in goals, on IR. In their steed comes the young guns of Tyler Toffoli and Linden...

The Kings made some moves today, placing Keaton Ellerby on waivers, Jeff Carter on injured reserve, and calling up forwards Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey from their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. As for the Ellerby move, it’s hardly surprising, and it makes sense. Ellerby’s an expendable player, one who was only re-signed as insurance and a little more depth [...]
It was all about the shaky goals last night at the JoBoing.com arena in Phoenix. A beauty, surprise snipe by Matt Hendricks opened the scoring early - but the quality goals were few and far between after that in a game that involved two backup tendy's. Preds went up 3-0 in the first with Legwand and Nystrom getting the other two goals, both of which took pretty sporadic...

from Adam Gretz of SB Nation,
The average shift length for a player in the NHL is usually somewhere between 45 and 55 seconds, depending on the player and position.
Some may be a little longer (Mike Green, for example, is averaging 1:04 per shift this season), others a little shorter (Edmonton's Will Acton only plays 31 seconds per shift). The bottom line is, when you...
