Usually a team that played the night before seems to be the tired group coming out of the gates. Not the case for the Nashville Predators tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nashville scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second, and 3 in the third to route the Hawks 6-1 in front of a sold-out United Center. The Predators are now 4-0-1 versus Chicago this season.

After playing Winnipeg the night before and skating away with a 3-1 win, the Predators picked right up where they left off.

Once Nashville weathered an early storm from the Blackhawks, it didn’t take but 6 minutes to take the lead in the game. Matt Halischuk grabbed a feed from Brandon Yip and put it past Corey Crawford for a 1-0 lead at 6:16 of the first. Halischuk’s line, including Yip and Gaustad, were able to keep the play in the zone after multiple failed clearing attempts by the Blackhawks.

The Predators weren’t done in the first period, however. Andrei Kostitsyn would laser a shot past the right shoulder of Corey Crawford making it 2-0 Nashville at the 15:28 mark. While the shot seemed to wobble a bit, it gave the Preds a nice cushion going into the second.

The middle frame wouldn’t do wonders for the Blackhawks either, although they had much better pressure. Nashville would grab their first powerplay at 4:39 of the second and would take a 3-0 lead a little over a minute later, with Shea Weber firing a blast from the point that re-directed off of Alex Radulov and Patric Hornqvist and into the net.

So what could the Predators do in the final 20 minutes? Try doubling their goal total from the previous 40. With goals from Francis Bouillon, Shea Weber, and Mike Fisher, Nashville would finish the game with a 6-1 score, giving the Predators 2 huge points and moving them ahead of Detroit for 4th place with only 6 games remaining.

Nashville continues “Hell Week” visiting St. Louis Tuesday night with a 7pm CT start time. The Predators will finish the week at Detroit on Friday at 6:30pm CT and a Saturday night tilt with these same Blackhawks in Nashville at 7pm CT
