For the first few weeks of the 2013-14 NHL season, much of the daily discussion centered around the multitude of illegal hits to the head and injuries resulting from fights. Including the preseason, seven players have been suspended for illegal hits to the head, the latest of which was Sabres forward John Scott getting a seven-game ban for a headshot on Bruins winger Loui Eriksson on Oct. 23. Since the NHL suspended Scott on Halloween, the number of suspension-worthy hits involving illegal contact with the head have decreased, which is encouraging, but that does not mean that the leagues issues surrounding this matter are in the rear-view mirror. One star player who recently came back to his team after needing a few weeks away from hockey to recover from a concussion suffered on an illegal hit is New York Rangers forward Rick Nash. It was the second concussion that he’s suffered since the start of the 2013 lockout-shortened season. Nash spoke to Larry Brooks of the New York Post on ...

Rick Nash Says Players Need To Change Their Behavior

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Nash said the comparatively lengthy recovery process attached to what was his second concussion in eight months has altered his perspective. “I’ve come to realize that with all this stuff going on, I’m going to have more than half of my life to live after I retire,” said the 29-year-old. “There’s a lot to life after hockey...

Del Zotto to return to lineup tomorrow

Per Katie Strang, defenseman Michael Del Zotto will be returning to the lineup tomorrow night in Dallas. Del Zotto had been a healthy scratch for the past three games. The Rangers went 1-2 in that span, scoring just two goals (both on the powerplay) while allowing three goals. Justin Falk, who had been replacing Del Zotto in the lineup, could be the odd-man out tomorrow. Per Strang...

New York Rangers: Michael Del Zotto is on the trade block

Various reports circulating in the hockey media suggest New York Rangers defenceman Michael Del Zotto is on the trade block as he struggle to fit in with head coach Alain Vigneault. GMs dial N.Y.Rangers about Michael Del Zotto

Once upon a time Michael Del Zotto was a promising young offensive defenseman. He appeared to be on the fast track to stardom. He scored 37 points as a rookie, then scored 41 points with a plus-20 ranking in his third NHL season. And then his progress stalled. Lately he has spent time in street clothes as a healthy scratch for the New York Rangers. Teams shopping for a puck-rushing...

Concussion alters Nash’s perspective

Rick Nash was neither surprised nor upset not to hear from Brad Stuart after the Sharks’ defenseman delivered the concussion-inducing headshot in San Jose on Oct. 8 that sidelined No. 61 for six weeks and 17 games. Still, if the skate had been on the other foot — or, more to the point, if the shoulder had slammed into the other head — Nash on Wednesday told The Post he would...

Vigneault: ‘No complaints’ on Del Zotto’s play after benching

Justin Falk did nothing to deserve his being taken out of the Rangers lineup. That was the sentiment from coach Alain Vigneault before Thursday night’s 3-2 win over the Stars at the American Airlines Center, a game in which he replaced Falk with mercurial young defenseman Michael Del Zotto. “Really like the way [Falk] played for us in those couple games there,” said Vigneault...

Rangers-Predators Preview

A hectic early schedule like the one the New York Rangers have played might be detrimental to most teams, but they've started to flourish away from home. New York will try to win a sixth straight road game for the first time in more than seven years Saturday night against the Nashville Predators. With Madison Square Garden undergoing renovations, the Rangers (11-11-0) traveled...

Lundqvist’s clutch saves lead Rangers past Stars

There was joy and music and laughter in the visitor’s dressing room, a palpable sense that what had just happened on the ice at the American Airlines Center was important, and that through the herculean efforts of Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers had finally, mercifully, crested a hill. The 3-2 win over the Stars on Thursday night was many things, but above all it was a much-needed...

Boston Bruins squeak by the New York Rangers, 2-1

The Boston Bruins had their hands full last night while battling the New York Rangers. Rask was playing in his second straight game (back-to-back games also), and that is a daunting task for any goaltender. It didn’t seem to phase the upcoming superstar goaltender, as Rask played fantastic all throughout the night. On the night, Rask would face 44 shots, stopping all but one of...

Rask, Bruins down Nash, Rangers

Tuukka Rask made 43 saves -- including a stop on a first-period penalty shot -- and the Boston Bruins spoiled the return of New York forward Rick Nash in a 2-1 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday night. Rask, playing on back-to-back days for the first time this season, denied Chris Kreider's penalty shot and turned away everything else except for Derick Brassard's power...
