As the Southeast Division Champion Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers are gearing up to face each other in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals this week, let's take a look back at the regular season series between the two teams.  Washington Capitals Record vs. New York Rangers: 1-2  vs. #6                                  #3 26-18-4, 56 points          27-18-3, 57 points See the head-to-head match-up! The Capitals did not score again as Carl Hagelin scored in the second period and Derek Stepan scored in the third period on the powerplay to win the game for New York. March 10 in Washington  1-4 Loss Goalies:  Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth vs. Martin Biron Caps PP:  0/3, Caps PK:  1/2 Shots For: 29, Shots Against: 30 Game-Winning Goal:  Brian Boyle Notes:  Once again, the Capitals got an early goal from a defenseman to take the lead, this time Steve Oleksy's first NHL goal put the Capitals ahead 1-0 just 2:16 into the game. Derek Stepan responded for the Rangers midway through the first period. Brian Boyle and Ryan Callahan scored goals 41 seconds apart in the second, and Brad Richards sealed the win with a late third-period tally for the final margin. March 24 in New York  3-2 Shootout Win Goalies: Braden Holtby vs. Henrik Lundqvist Caps PP:  1/3, Caps PK:  1/2 Shots For: 24, Shots Against: 32 Game-Winning Shootout Goal: Nicklas Backstrom Notes:  The Capitals took the lead in the first perio for the third straight game, getting a powerplay goal from Nicklas Backstrom and an even strength goal by Alex Ovechkin before the game was 10 minutes old. The Rangers got two goals in the second half of the period, an unexpected tally from scrapper Arron Asham and a powerplay tally for Derek Stepan, to close the scoring for the game.
