PLAYERS: Gary BettmanBill Daly
By IRA PODELL AP Sports Writer NEW YORK -- The NHL and the players' association have resumed negotiations in an effort to avoid a lockout this weekend. After not meeting face to face since last Friday, the sides gathered Wednesday at the league office before the NHLPA holds player meetings later Wednesday at a nearby midtown hotel. The NHL board of governors will convene Thursday with Commissioner Gary Bettman, while the union holds a second day of discussions with as many as 250 players. The hastily scheduled negotiating session for Wednesday came just hours after NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said owners and players were both to blame for their failure to reach a new collective bargaining agreement before the current deal expires on Saturday.

The phrases "hockey-related revenue," "players' share" and "salary rollbacks" dominate the conversations as the NHL heads to a lockout at midnight on Saturday. Greed Takes Over

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet,  They should all be ashamed. The owners, who have let their game come to this, with a lockout every single time the labour contract comes due. And the players, whose absolute greed under former leadership led to their share of the pie being so disproportionate, that nobody I know can answer the following question: Why is it, when baseball...

Forget The NHL?

from Andrew Gross of the Record,  From time to time at Madison Square Garden, I’ve bumped into David Gottlieb, a Rangers’ season-ticket holder since 1997 who bleeds the clichéd blue and whose passion for his team is typical of most die-hard NHL fans. But with the NHL facing a Saturday deadline for its third lockout since 1994 and fourth labor stoppage since 1992...
