The Detroit Red Wings players said they did not want to miss the playoffs in Henrik Zetterberg’s first season as captain. On Saturday night in Dallas, with the postseason on the line, the captain made sure his team would play on.
Zetterberg scored twice in the Red Wings’ 3-0 win over Minnesota — early, on an incredible individual effort that resulted in the puck bouncing home...
If you need to know how the Red Wings can clinch a berth to their 22nd straight playoffs, it has been presented to us succinctly by The Detroit News:
*Earn at least one point in Dallas on Saturday, ending regulation time with a tie.
*If Columbus loses at home Saturday against Nashville, the Red Wings will make the playoffs regardless of what they do in Dallas.
The Detroit Red Wings will begin their 22nd consecutive playoff appearance on Tuesday night (10:30 p.m. ET vs. the Mighty Mighty Ducks). It's the longest playoff streak in all of sports. It's a wonderful coincidence the Red Wings have a guy on their team named Tootoo and his number is 22. The streak is something I want to jot some notes about.
When I was growing up, idolizing...
The Detroit Red Wings needed a late finishing kick but not only made the playoffs for the 22nd straight season, they catapulted into seventh in the Western Conference.
It's only fitting that in their last season in the West that the Wings would have to head to the west coast to play the second-seeded Anaheim Ducks in the first round.
The Wings and Ducks faced each other three...
On Saturday night the record for straight playoff appearances in professional sports stayed alive, as the Detroit Red Wings dominated the Dallas Stars 3-0 stretching the mark to 22 consecutive years of NHL playoff hockey for the boys from Hockeytown. Again, that's the most consecutive playoff berths by any team in any sport. The Detroit Red Wings simply are one of the most...
Babcock seems a little more relaxed than usual today and I actually laughed at his remarks about the travel between Ottawa and Montreal near the end of this five minute video.

The Anaheim Ducks have recalled defender Matt Clark from the AHL. Not much of a producer with the stick, he hasn’t played for the Ducks this season.

The Anaheim Ducks have recalled defensiveman Nate Guenin. Scoring, 24 points in 66 games this season, he adds depth to the Ducks, but not much more.

Somewhat ironically: the CBC's Hotstove Tonight crew on Hockey Night in Canada confirmed that the Red Wings will lose Jim Nill to Dallas "after the season" (whether that means before or after the NHL Draft that Nill tends to run for the Wings, nobody seems to know yet), but in revealing as much, the CBC's Elliotte Friedman stated that the Wings and Stars were trying...
As the Detroit Red Wings try to qualify for their 22nd consecutive postseason, we’re taking a daily look at the key games that could impact that pursuit.
So, it all comes down to this. The Red Wings’ playoff streak, which currently stretches more than two decades, can be extended if the Wings simply get to overtime on Saturday night in Dallas. A win, and the Red Wings can get...
A day after the Anaheim Ducks wrapped up the most impressive regular season in franchise history, they were eager to forget all about it.
The Ducks realize their impressive record and Pacific Division title won't matter much to the Detroit Red Wings, who had to scramble just to make the postseason while Anaheim only needed to coast. That's why Detroit is a fashionable pick...
NEW YORK (April 29, 2013) – Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard , Detroit Red Wings center Henrik Zetterberg and Edmonton Oilers right wing Nail Yakupov have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending April 28. Continue reading "Stars Of The Week"
Some of the Anaheim Ducks players and Bruce Boudreau talk about facing the Wings.
With the pending announcement that the Stars have hired Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill to take over their head GM job from Joe Niewendyk, I decided yesterday to solicit input from longtime Detroit Red Wings scout Mark Howe about Nill.
Unfortunately, I was tied up at the Philadelphia Flyers' cleanout day media availability session with general manager Paul Holmgren...
The Captain had one of his best regular season campaigns ever, potting 15 goals to go along with 34 helpers. His 49 points led the team, and Getzy also chipped in 3 shootout goals in his 44 games.Playoffs begin this week with the Ducks hosting the Detroit Red Wings. s'go!
