Found September 05, 2012 on The Prospect Park:
J.T. Miller (Plymouth Whalers) It is a quiet time for the prospects of the New York Rangers and New York Islanders as hockey is a strange sport at times. Last week teams from the OHL and WHL opened their training camps and already most have finished their training camps.

At this level the start of the school year has as much an impact on when a younger player is cut as his play. Unless you are extremely special then if you are younger than 16 then it is back to your bantam team.

What a shame that the NHL is once again pushing itself to the edge of the cliff because there are some very good young talent on the verge of making the jump to the CHL.

Take this young man wearing number 97 Connor McDavid.

McDavid was granted "exceptional player status" by Hockey Canada and was selected 1st overall by the Erie Otters in the 2012 OHL Bantam Draft. If you did not click on the link or watch the video, then finding out that McDavid is just 15 and his talent is legit.

McDavid is the most talented young player in the CHL which is saying a lot considering that Seth Jones (Portland-WHL), Max Domi (London-OHL) and Nathan MacKinnon (Halifax-QMJHL) are extremely talented in their own right.

We haven't even started the 2012-2013 season and already you have scouts drooling over the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Too bad most of the attention will be focused on off-ice labor problems instead of what could be some of the most talented young players a draft has seen in years.

We sit 10 days from the NHL's decision whether or not they will lock out the NHL players. I know I have already decided that the moment Gary Bettman declares a lockout that I won't care who is to blame; I will be canceling my Center Ice annual subscription and use the money on leagues that will be actually playing.

It may not mean anything to the NHL but it will to me.

Checking in on the Michael Del Zotto contract situation

The last thing that the Rangers as an organization need to do is to get RFA Michael Del Zotto under contract. When we last wrote about this,  Larry Brooks was on record saying that the Rangers offered MDZ a multi-year deal in the $2.5 million range. Del Zotto was rumored to be looking for more, but no concrete numbers were provided. The logical assumption is that Del Zotto’s...

Rangers at informal skates

Although the lockout is imminent, it is not stopping several Rangers players from getting together today for an informal skate. Per Andrew Gross, 14 players were on the ice for a skate today: 14 players including newcomers Rick Nash, Taylor Pyatt and Jeff Halpern along with veterans Henrik Lundqvist, Brad Richards, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi and Anton Stralman as well as younger veterans...

Looking to add Brock Beukeboom?

Although Brock Beukeboom –son of Jeff Beukeboom– hasn’t been able to stay healthy during his early career in the OHL, the Rangers have had him on their radar, according to Bruce Berlet. When the Rangers added Senior Beuk to the coaching staff in Connecticut, the interest appeared to have intensified. Per Berlet, the Rangers were looking to bring in Beukeboom to the now canceled...

Lundqvist Has Not Thought About Playing in Europe

In an interview with Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record yesterday, Henrik Lundqvist said he has not thought about whether he would play in Europe if there was a lockout this season. This is contrary to reports out of Europe last week that stated Lundqvist wants to play for his former Swedish Elite League team to assume the truth is somewhere in the middle. Sure, if...

Youth Will Be Served on Broadway

No matter when the next NHL season starts, it will be about youth when it comes to the New York Rangers. Since the NHL lockout in 2004-05, the Blueshirts have been on a much different path than they were prior to the lockout. Instead of being a team that went out and signed or traded for old veterans or free agents, they have become an organization focused on developing their...
