Rising Star

Mike Santorelli was born on December 14, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia and like many young west coast boys,  chose hockey as his first passion.

Growing up honing his craft in the Vancouver Minor Hockey system.

He started his Junior ‘A’ career with the Langley Hornets of the BCHL,  and pretty much became an instant sensation scoring 24 goals and 52 points in 60 games during the 2002-03 season, not to shabby for a rookie.

Santorelli caught the attention of the BCHL Vernon Vipers, a team to which he went on to star for during the one season that he played there.

#13 - Mike Santorelli

In 60 games, Santorelli scored 43 goals and recorded 53 assists; Needless to say, he was firmly on the radar of the College Hockey programs in the United States and the Pros.

It was after that year in Vernon that Santorelli was drafted into the NHL – in the 6th round – 178th overall by the Nashville Predators.

After his year in Vernon, Santorelli received a scholarship offer from Northern Michigan of the CCHA.

Santorelli would play three seasons at Northern Michigan averaging nearly a point per game before moving to Nashville’s AHL affiliate – the Milwaukee Admirals where he spent two seasons and recorded 96 points in 150 games.

Santorelli was called up by Nashville on January 8th, 2009 in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

His debut didn’t generate any points but it was a sign that he had officially arrived on the NHL scene. Santorelli played seven games that season and 25 games in the 2009-2010 season before being returned to Milwaukee for the 2010-2011 season.

It was August 5, 2010 when Santorelli got another chance with his trade to the Florida Panthers – a team that he skates for presently.

He played all 82 games for Florida in 2010 and recorded 20 goals and 21 assists.

Most scouts say he has the ability to make things happen every time he’s on the ice, with great hands and scoring ability, coupled with speed and acceleration makes him a tough player to contain.

Could Radulov make Preds Western Favorites?

David Polie was among the NHL's most active general managers at this year's trade deadline, acquiring shut-down defenseman Hal Gil, penalty-killing specialist Paul Gaustad, and scorer Andrei Kostitsyn to bolster his roster, and at a considerable price. Word out of Nashville this week indicates that even now, he might not be finished. Consider Alexander Radulov, Nashville...

Ken Holland, Central Division rivals not happy with Radulov situation

In no small part due to the fact that the KHL “poached’” restricted free agent forward Alexander Radulov from the Nashville Predators and then spent the past four seasons insisting that Radulov was the prime example as to how the KHL-NHL relationship had improved in terms of the NHL respecting the KHL’s valid contracts and not “poaching” players themselves, the NHLPA...

Ken Beckett: Free Fall Continues - Panthers Score Five to Hand Leafs Fifth-Straight Loss
