Back when Steve Ott and Jeff Halpern were teammates with the Dallas Stars, it's not known how close the two were off the ice. But when the two faced off against each other as opponents on Thursday night, we saw a glimpse of just how close they get on the ice. Ott, now a center for the Buffalo Sabres, has always been known as one of the best agitators in the NHL. And on Thursday night, he might have taken things just a little too far. Hockey Night in Canada cameras had a tight shot on the faces of Ott and Halpern, who now plays for the Montreal Canadians, as the two were at center ice for a face-off. Ott made an odd movement towards Halpern's face and, upon a slow motion replay, it appeared Ott tried to lick Halpern on the face. Players are always looking to get an edge on the draw, but as one of the announcers put it best...that's just creepy.

Has Steve Ott Snapped In Buffalo...???

((HT: CBC/MSG/NHL)) Steve Ott is an alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres... and his evening against the Montreal Canadiens started like this... The HQ would always like to know how every fight involving the Habs involves Boullion... And then, he seems to treat Jeff Halpern like a popsicle at faceoff... His third act was very special, according to Matt Barnaby...

Ott tries licking Halpern's visor during faceoff

You’re down 4-0 at home in the 3rd period to Northeast Division rival Montreal, and you’re looking for something, anything, to spark your team to a miraculous comeback. Sabres forward Steve Ott went the unconventional route, opting to try and lick Habs center Jeff Halpern’s visor prior to a faceoff, in an attempt to throw Halpern off his game and win the draw. Did it work?...

Steve Ott Licks Jeff Halpern’s Visor Before Third-Period Faceoff (Video)

Steve Ott is known around the league as many things: a pest, an agitator and even a dirty player. However, this time he has now pulled an even more bizarre stunt. Before a faceoff in Thursday’s game against the Canadiens, Ott appeared to lick the visor of Montreal forward Jeff Halpern. It seems like Ott was up to his old tricks all night on Thursday, as he also got in a fight...

Steve Ott tries to lick Jeff Halpern’s half-shield

Buffalo Sabres forward Steve Ott has been in the news quite a bit lately.  A few days ago he made headlines because he was complaining about fans booing/mocking the Sabres for playing terribly.  On Thursday night, Ott took things to a new level of weird, trying to lick Montreal Canadiens forward Jeff Halpern’s half-shield.  What possessed Ott to do this, I have no idea, but...

Buffalo's Steve Ott demonstrates textbook embellishment

Speaking of clowns. This is a textbook embellishment. You can't tell me that a big guy like Steve Ott who is 6'0" and 193 pounds, should be able to be knocked over this easily, no way, it's not possible. This should be a penalty on Steven Ott for embellishment. I also believe that it's probably not a smart play by Flyers defenseman Oliver Lauridsen because he...

Steve Ott tries to lick Jeff Halpern’s visor before face-off (Video)

Buffalo Sabres center Steve Ott is known for doing some pretty strange things, and he added to that reputation on Thursday night. Before a face-off against the Montreal Canadiens, Ott tried to lick Montreal’s Jeff Halpern’s visor. Is that his idea of trying to gain an advantage? If I was Halpern, it would probably work. It’s one thing for a guy to try to get in your head by...

Steve Ott is Right!

© Dan Hickling Boos and Bo-hoos, Because it’s Buffalo? Commentary on the State of Hockey Heaven by John Wingspread Howell As the strike shortened NHL season limps to an end here in “Hockey Heaven,” Sabres fans all agree that it’s more like hockey hell. The commentary on social media and sports talk radio has become increasingly toxic. One of the key phrases repeated, not...

Steve Ott wants to lick Jeff Halpern's visor

Steve Ott, agitator extraordinaire, loves to stir things up. Whether it's about fans booing in Buffalo which caused an interesting and kind of hilarious exchange between him, his fiancee and Buffalo's beat writer, or if it's trying to gain an edge before a draw, he'll do what it takes to get under your skin. This time prior to a faceoff, Ott tried to lick Jeff...

Sabres Steve Ott tries to lick Jeff Halpern's face during face-off (Video)

We've posted some pretty strange videos over the years but this one starring Buffalo Sabres Steve Ott is  possibly the most random. During last Thursday's Montreal Canadiens/Buffalo Sabres match, Ott was in the face-off circle with Montreal center Jeff Halpern and that's when Steve decided to do a little bit of gamesmanship. Watch as Steve sticks his tongue out...

Latest Face-off Tactic In The NHL Involves Licking Your Opponents Visor

This is pure gold. Sabres forward Steve Ott was in a faceoff in the third period against Habs center Jeff Halpern, and he went with a rather unorthodox approach in an attempt to win said faceoff. The approach included licking Halpern’s visor, not kidding. Check out the video to see it for yourself. Unfortunately Ott may need to find another tactic, as he lost the faceoff. ...

Kevin Freiheit: How the Sabres got their name

First of all, did you see what Steve Ott did in last night's game against Montreal? Watch the entire video: I've never seen anyone do that before, and I didn't catch it during the game. Thought it was pretty funny. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does it aggravate you...

Reactions: Sabres Trounced By Canadiens 5-1

It was the Montreal Takeover at First Niagara Center Thursday night If there were any hopes of a late season surge to the playoffs for the Buffalo Sabres, those ideas can now be put to rest after the team no-showed for the second game in a row in a 5-1 blowout loss to Montreal. From the opening faceoff at the Belle Cen…err…First Niagara Center, it was clear that Montreal —...

The curse of the Sabres captains

I've gone on record a few times on Twitter and on this site about ******** about who should be the captain. In a word: ********. I just think fans and media members take it too far when it comes to who should wear the "C" on this team. If I had a dollar for every time someone called into a radio show or a media member ******* about how this guy should be wearing the...
