BOSTON - DECEMBER 14: Zdeno Chara #33 of the Boston Bruins directs his teammates in the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers on December 14, 2009 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Wonderfully touching moment from Saturday night’s Bruins-Sabres game, as Daron and Lori Jacobs, parents of Lt. Charlie Jacobs of the 182d Infantry of the Massachusetts National Guard, were on hand to perform the ceremonial puck drop between Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Buffalo captain Jason Pominville in honor of Veteran’s Day.  Lt. Jacobs has been serving in Afghanistan for the past seven months.

Unbeknownst to the Jacobs’, the Bruins had another surprise in store for them, as the person chosen to deliver the ceremonial puck to the couple was none other than their son, who they believed was still over in Afghanistan. It was a classy gesture by the Boston Bruins, and as the scene unfolded, the Jacobs, and just about everyone in the TD Garden crowd are overcome with emotion.

Said Daron Jacobs (via Boston.com)…

“I thought we were just out there to be suppporting family members, you know?” Daron Jacobs said. “I didn’t think he’d be showing up — didn’t think about it. And then all of a sudden, the crowd got a ittle bit louder, and I’m trying to look up at the Jumbotron — I see nothing, but I thought, `What’s going on?’ and I listened to the announcement, and they said they had someone who wanted to help us drop the puck.”

And what was Charlie feeling during this overwhelmingly emotional moment?

“It was one of the most exciting moments of my life. I was shaking. My heart was coming out of my chest. It was so unreal. I almost jumped the gun, and they had to hold me back. I saw them walking out there, and I just wanted to see them.”

I don’t know about you, but I can never get enough of these surprise reunion videos.
