PLAYERS: Teemu Selanne
TEAMS: Anaheim Ducks
Following Wednesday's morning skate at the Pepsi Center the Avalanche moved its head coach's press conference to the big room. The small room is usually used for regular-season games but with Patrick Roy now at the Colorado helm and Anaheim's Teemu Selanne set to begin his 22nd and final NHL season at age 43 a media gathering of Stanley Cup proportions forced the Avs have Roy speak in the cafeteria. "We want to surprise the world of hockey" Roy said of his goal in his first NHL coaching position. "It starts tonight." Television crews and print reporters from Roy's hometown of Quebec Canada and Selanne's native Finland were on hand to document Wednesday's opener against the Ducks and Avs. The amount of media in the Avs' locker room certainly made it a playoff-type atmosphere — harkening memories of when Roy led Colorado to the playoffs in seven of his eight years with the club.

Roy boils over in 6-1 win over Ducks

Shortly after the final horn, an irate Patrick Roy screamed at the Anaheim Ducks through the glass partition separating the two benches. Still worked up, he shoved the glass with both hands not once but twice, causing it to tip forward. Yep, Roy's just as fiery as ever. In his NHL coaching debut, Roy lost only his temper as the Colorado Avalanche routed the Ducks 6-1 on Wednesday...

Colorado Takes Advantage of Error Laden Ducks 6-1

If this is how the whole season is going to go, Teemu Selanne is going to regret coming back for a final year.  Anaheim has to be a whole lot better after a 6-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche to open the season on Wednesday night.   A lot better.  From top to bottom. The Ducks outshot the Avalanche, 36-29, but the only number the counts is the one on the scoreboard....

About last night: Patick Roy goes nuts!

The NHL wasn’t super busy Wednesday night, but it was interesting. Here is what we learned:Patrick Roy is ready rumble as a rookie NHL coach. He is jacked up and good to go. Patrick Roy made quite the memorable impression during his first game as the coach of the Colorado Avalanche. Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau took offense and rushed over to exchange some words with Roy. Roy's heated reaction will require the workers at...

When the Colorado Avanlanche hired former NHL great Patrick Roy to become their new head coach, they did so not only because he was qualified, but also to sell tickets. Patrick Roy's Avalanche coaching debut a smash hit in 6-1 wipeout of Ducks

"The Boys are Back in Town" was one of the songs blaring from the new state-of-the-art sound system before the game at the Pepsi Center but even the highest wattage speakers could not compete with the roar Patrick Roy received when introduced as the Avalanche's new head coach Wednesday night. Stepping dramatically from a darkened tunnel onto the Avs bench Roy received...

Ducks-Avalanche Preview

Patrick Roy can empathize with the Anaheim Ducks' new motto, "Unfinished Business." The last time the Hall of Fame goaltender took the ice in the NHL, his Colorado Avalanche were bounced out of the 2003 playoffs in the first round after a 105-point campaign. Now entering his first season as Colorado's coach, he's looking to get the franchise headed back toward...

Eklund: "He's back...."

Things couldn't have gone better in the Mile High State tonight as the Avalanche not only took apart the Anaheim Ducks 6-1 but we were reminded how once every generation or so the Hockey Gods bestow upon the great writers of this sport a new and wondrous gift. Welcome back Patrick Roy...
