As the Los Angeles Kings tossed their gloves into the air and prepared to hoist the franchise's first ever Stanley Cup trophy, they left one important piece of history behind on the ice. And it appears that a New Jersey Devils player may be in possession of the historic keepsake.

Devils forward Patrik Elias  is the most likely suspect in the case of the missing puck. Elias, a 16-year NHL veteran and widely considered one of the most respected players in the NHL, can be seen picking up the puck during the Kings celebration after the 6-1 win in Game 6.

While the search for this year's missing puck doesn't quite meet the level of mystery involved in that of the Chicago Blackhawks Cup-winning puck from 2010, this year's puck still has yet to be retrieved.

Rookie forward Jordan Nolan was the closest Kings player to the puck as the celebration ensued, according to Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider, but as the video shows he never actually makes it all the way to the puck.

Check out the final moments of the Kings win and entire celebration in the video below. At about the 2:00 mark, Elias can be seen picking up an object near center ice - possibly the puck - with his stick and skating over to goalie Martin Brodeur before leaving the ice.

Maybe the 36-year-old Elias kept the puck for himself out of pure spite of the crushing loss, as it could be his last trip to the Final. Or maybe he gave it to Brodeur as a gift, thinking this was the veteran's last game in net in the NHL.

Either way, check out the video below to draw your own conclusions.

Kings fan takes out classified ad to mock New Jersey Devils

This “announcement” was placed in today’s Star-Ledger. And the picture, it comes courtesy of Getty’s Mark Fischel. So if you’re keeping score at home let’s recap. Today alone we’ve had word that the NHL is planning to take over the Devils, though the NHL denies it, and now a Kings fan was able to place an ad in New Jersey’s local paper mocking the hometown hockey...

Looking at Some Moves that Could Happen on or Before the NHL Entry Draft

With the Stanley Cup finally being awarded to the Los Angeles Kings and the NHL Awards and Draft lurking just around the corner, it is time that we ramp up coverage here at FTP. Though we have provided some quick hits since the season ended and one big one in the form of the Philippe Dube’ Reebok/CCM piece, we have largely been in hiding since the Penguins were eliminated back...

Devils Fan's Desk Spitefully Turned Into Kings Central By Co-Workers

Courtesy of our good friend at The Royal Half, we bring you video of a Devils fan's worst nightmare, save for Zach Parise in Broadway blue. This unlucky soul, Chris, as we know him for now, had the displeasure of coming back from vacation to find his cubicle spectacularly decked out in Kings gear: Now, it probably stands to reason that Chris threw a few playful jabs around...

Early this morning, the New York Post’s Josh Koshan claimed that the NHL will be taking over the New Jersey Devils in order to ensure that the Devils will make the $77 million payment the team has to pay to help defray the $200 million in arena debt the franchise is saddled with. Not surprisingly, USA Today’s Kevin Allen received a, “No way, we’re not doing that at all...

Todd Cordell: Notes on the New Jersey Devils and the upcoming NHL Draft

We are just five days away from the first round of the NHL draft, where the Devils will pick 29th overall. Matthew Barry: Rumors

Is the party over yet? Nah. Depending on who you talk to, Kings former #4 pick and RFA (with a 1.3 mil NHL cap hit) Thomas Hickey has asked to be traded. The Kings don't have 2nd or 3rd round picks this year and Lombardi and his staff have made a killing in the 2nd round (Toffoli, Clifford, Voynov, Moller, Simmonds), so look for Hickey to be moved soon for an early...

How did I not know about this ahead of time?

The Kings were in on the Star Wars joke the whole time! And by that, I don't mean "the thing that I did where I wrote Los Angeles Kings into the script of Star Wars". I mean "the thing where they made three mediocre moves as a prequil to three tremendous movies".

Matthew Barry: Should Bernier and Stoll Be Suspended?

Rules are Rules and Brendan Shanahan and his directors of player safety are nowhere to be found. Such is the inconsistencies of Shana-Ban. Okay, I know, they don't want to take away from the joy of the Stanley Cup, but it's almost a week later and its time for the league to do what they're SUPPOSED to do. Jarret Stoll should be suspended for his blind side hit...
