James Neal and Sidney Crosby scored during a shootout to give the Penguins a 3-2 victory over Chicago in a preseason game at Consol Energy Center tonight. The Penguins 2-2-1 in exhibition play will wrap up their six-game preseason schedule in Detroit Wednesday. Bryan Bickell put Chicago in front 1-0 with a shorthanded goal at 1:09 of the second period as he knocked a puck out of the air and past goalie Jeff Zatkoff. Bickell struck again at 14:00 as he deflected in Jeremy Morin's slap shot from the left point during a man-advantage. Morin's goal was the Blackhawks' first on the power play in 22 tries during this preseason. Kris Letang got the Penguins to within one at 9:23 of the third period as he picked off a pass before breaking in on Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and beating him with a backhander. Letang then forced overtime by driving a shot over Khabibulin's glove during a power play at 17:44.

Pittsburgh Penguins prepare for season ahead

Starting next Thursday the puck will drop on a new season for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Much like preseason in any sport, it gives the fans a taste of what to expect from the team and give a look at some younger talent.  The Penguins are 2-2-1 with their final preseason game Wednesday against at the Detroit Red Wings. Despite his age, Derrick Pouliot could be NHL ready. Penguins...

Penguins' situation at the goaltender spot is appearing bleak

The Penguins are in an uncomfortable spot at the NHL's most important position. Marc-Andre Fleury — the franchise goalie who was benched because of ineffectiveness in the Stanley Cup playoffs and is coming off management's mandated sessions with a sports psychologist — suddenly is the franchise's lone proven goalie. Tomas Vokoun star of the Penguins' playoff...

Blackhawks' Bollig shows off 'skills'

Last week, a crazy video of Patrick Kane's stick-handling skills emerged. It was so impressive it had some writing it off as a fake : Now, I can't personally verify the authenticity of Kane's clip -- except for the end, which is definitely not real. But on Monday, Kane's Chicago Blackhawks teammate Brandon Bollig released a response video, and I can say with confidence...

Reloaded Penguins ready to make another run

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't panic when the bitter disappointment of last spring's sweep at the hands of the Boston Bruins wore off. If anything, the Penguins went the other way. While other NHL powers underwent substantial roster overhauls, Pittsburgh did what it could to keep the core of one of the league's most consistent winners in tack. The Penguins awarded coach...

The decision was made for an immediate operation and it was later announced Vokoun would be out indefinitely. This...

Deep Blackhawks hoping for 2nd straight title

The last time Chicago won the Stanley Cup, the team was dismantled during the offseason and the title defense ended in the first round of the playoffs. Not so much this time. When the Blackhawks hit the ice next week for their opener against Washington, it will be a very familiar group. Jonathan Toews (tayvz) and company are all set to go for their second consecutive NHL. There...
