The Pittsburgh Penguins escaped the worst of the Tristan Jarry injury situation. Per coach Mike Sullivan, Jarry will start in goal Saturday when the Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins’ transactions also included recalling forward Vinnie Hinostroza.
Hinostroza, who signed as a free agent in July, began the season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as the NHL team carried only 12 forwards. Last week, the team recalled Hinostroza when they played backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic on long-term injured reserve.
The forward made his debut last Saturday against the San Jose Sharks. He scored a goal and registered an assist in his first game. When Jarry was injured last Tuesday in the game against the Anaheim Ducks, the Penguins needed space to recall a backup goalie (Joel Blomqvist) and demoted Hinostroza for the Thursday game against the LA Kings.
Hinostroza or Jeff Carter will be in the lineup on Saturday.
As part of the move, the Penguins sent Blomqvist back to the WBS Penguins.
